Notes for Hezekiah D. MAULSBY
His will was filed April 7, 1852, New Madrid County, Missouri.
The 1850 cenus lists H.D. Maulsby, age 50, born in Virginia.
Land records between Dec. 1826 and Jan., 1834 "Hananiah Maulsby purchased
land (Index of U.S. Land sales, vol. 1). Also, vol.3 lists hannamah Maulsby
on page 501 and hannaniah on page 511 as purchasing land between Jan. 1,
1836 and Feb., 1837. The family was said to have very large land holdings, my
grandmother said it was over 8,000 acres.
The "History of the Maltby/Maulsby Family in America" by Ella Kent Bernard
refers to three brothers in New madrid named Hesikiah, Haniniah and Lemuel,
their lineage not known but suspected descended from William Maulsby 3rd or
4th.
No Maulsbylisted in the 1796 census of New Madrid under Spanish control.
H.D. Maulsby was county treasurer 1840-44.
H.D. Maulsby was listed as a merchant in new madrid "in the 1840's, not
listed as present in 1888.
H.P. Maulsby,(Hanniniah) was treasurer 1836-40 and State legislative
Representative 1840-44.
An H.T. Maulsby was referred to as an early merchant in 1840-50 in the
History of S.E. Misouri.
A william Maulsby and wife, Ann, Lived in Maryland and later in VA (Harrison
County) and bought and sold considerable land there in the late 1790's. Also
a William Maulsby and wife Ann bought land in new Madrid in 1808 and sold it
to these three brothers in 1813 (at least they deeded it to them). Ella Kent
Barnard's book lists William's children and these boys are not listed, it
depends upon which William is being referred to.
A Samuel Maulsby appears in one New Madrid census.
Hezekiah's death date is from Missouri Pioneers, Vol. V.
The book "Pioneers of New Madrid lists a fifth son, H.C. Maulsby (?H.D.)
with no documentation or further record. He apparantly died as a child.
Hezekiah's will, copy in file, states that his estate is to remain intact
until his youngest child, George Washington Maulsby reaches 21. Mary C.
Maulsby to have full control. The farm on which the family resides adjoining
the town of Mount Pleasant. When William Frederick becomes 21 that Mary is
to advance him funds to aid him in such business as he selects to pursue.
When George Washington is 21, the estate be equally divided among mary C.,
and his three children, Wm. Frederick, Robert Lawrence and George Washingto,
showing that the fourth son, H.D.Maulsby, was not alive when the will was
written.
