448   Bartold PÖHLS.  (Parents:  Unknown) Bartold was born in Barkhorst, Holstein.  He died before 1650, probably in Barkhorst.  He was a cottager in Barkhorst, which was a possession of the Holy Ghost Hospital [Heiligen Geist Hospital] in Lübeck.  In 1642, he transfered his property to his (future) son-in-law, Heinrich MEIN, who married his daughter, Gesche, and became a retired farmer on a life estate [Altenteiler].  He is believed to have married Catherina (maiden name unknown), although there is a possibility that she was actually his mother or mother-in-law, and not his wife.  Bartold and his wife had the following children (there may have been others):

  1. Gesche PÖHLS
  2. Hans PÖHLS [224]
  3. Sielke PÖHLS

449   Catherina (maiden name unknown).  (Parents:  Unknown) Catherina was born in about 1566, possibly somewhere in Holstein, and died in about 1666, probably in Schossin, Mecklenburg.  She was buried on 17 February 1666.  It is generally presumed that Catherina was the wife of Bartold PÖHLS, but she may actually have been his mother or mother-in-law.  Her death record in the churchbook at Parum, Mecklenburg, states that she was 100 years old at the time of her death.  It also states that she was the mother of Jochim SAGER’S wife, who was Sielke, a daughter of Bartold PÖHLS.  These two facts appear contradictory, since if she was 100 years old at the time of her death, she likely would have been in her 60s when Sielke was born.

450   Heinrich SCHMITT.  (Parents:  Unknown) Heinrich’s birthplace and date are unknown.  He died in 1657 in Denschendorf on the island of Fehmarn, which lies just a short distance off the east coast of Holstein.  He was buried on 6 November 1657.  Heinrich was reportedly a blacksmith on Fehmarn.  The name of his wife is unknown.  Heinrich had the following children (there may have been others):
