Will of David Pridgen

NASH CO, NC WILL of DAVID PRIDGEN 1814

In the name of God Amen. I David Pridgen of Nash County and state of North Carolina being sound mind and disposing memory blessed be God for it, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament this 26th day of May in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fourteen in manner and form following.

ITEM: I lend unto my loving wife Pinky L. Pridgen the land and plantation whereon I now live containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that my father bought of Benjamin Flowers, also one other tract of land adjoining the aforesaid piece containing one hundred and forty acres, more or less, as bounded by the directions of the deeds (it being the piece of land that I bought of Joseph Harrwood and his wife Sarah) also one other tract of land containing twenty five acres more or less, as bounded by the directions of the deeds it being the piece of land that I bought of Solomon Wells also I lend to my loving wife Pinkey L. Pridgen, one negro man named Peter, one negro woman named Win, one negro man named Jacob, formerly called Young jacob, one negro girl named Jude also one horse by the name of Legs, one bridle and womans saddle, also four cows and calves, her choice, also fifty barrels of corn, also thirty heads of hogs, from one year to two year olds her choice, also, one feather bed and stead and furniture, book case and drawers, one table painted blue, one blue painted chest, and of my working tools, two plow hoes, two weeding hoes, two axes, two basons, one dish, four plates, four spoons, six case knives and forkes which property that I have lent to her as long as she remains my widow, and after her widow hood or decease it is my will and desire that the afore mentioned property that I have lent to my wife, be equally divided between my two sons Hardy Pridgen, Abijah Pridgen and my daughter Cloah Atkinson which I give to then and their heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Hardy Pridgen one tract of land lying on both sides of Sappony swamp containing three hundred and thirty acres more or less as bounded by the directions of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of John Atkinson which land I give to him and his heirs forever also I give to him two hundred and fifty dollars in money also the negro woman named Vilot and her children, that he now has in his possession also one negro man named Jeffery also one negro boy named Jesse, ___the black walnut case, also one feather bed and stead and furniture, to them and their heirs forever.

ITEM: I give to my three grandsons William Tisdale, Philander Tisdale and Alexander Tisdale, the sons of _______Tisdale and Piety his wife, one negro boy named Bynum, one negro girl named Lew, the daughter of old Lott to them and their heirs forever.

ITEM: I give to my daughter Piety Tisdale one feather bed and stead and furniture, to her her life time and after her decease I give the said bed and stead and furniture to my granddaughter Mourning Tisdale to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Abijah Pridgen one certain tract of land lying on north side of Tar River containing one hundred and twenty five acres more or less as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of Hardy Pridgen which land I give to him and his heirs forever also one negro man named Cain, one negro woman named Ellick, one negro girl named Sook, one still and worm, one desk, one black walnut case and feather bed and stead and furniture to him and his heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Cloah Atkinson one tract of land lying on north side of Tar River containing one hundred and fifty eight and a half acres more or less as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of James Prim and his wife Mary to her and her heirs forever also I give to her one other piece of land lying on the north side of the Tar River containing one hundred and forty one acres and a half of land as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of James Prim and his wife Mary to her and her heirs forever also one negro woman named Lucy and her increase one negro man named Charles, one negro man named Isaac, one negro woman named Jane, one feather bed and stead and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Atehea Harper one negro woman named Cate and her increase one negro boy named Napton, one negro woman named old Dinah, one negro Boy named Pomp, one feather bed and stead and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Primmy Larkin one negro woman named old Lett, also one negro woman named Charlet, also one feather bed and stead and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Peggey Cooper one negro woman named Silve and her increase, also one negro woman named Nance, also one negro boy named Abraham, also one negro girl named Beck, also one feather bed and stead and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Polly Harriet Pridgen one tract of land containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less adjoining Drewy Pridgens line it being the piece of land that I bought of Rhoda Allen also one other tract containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of Elizabeth Allen also one other tract containing three hundred and twenty acres more or less as bounded by the direction of the deed, it being the piece of land that I bought of Joseph Selah Jan also one negro boy by the name Looks also six hundred dollars in cash, to her and her heirs forever: It is my will and desire that if my said daughter Polly Harriet Pridgen lives to arrive to the age of eighteen years for her to receive her said legacy that I have left to her and take possession of it and if she should die without a lawful heir begotten of her body, then the said property to revert back and be equally divided between my two sons Hardy Pridgen, Abijah Pridgen and my daughter Cloah Atkinson.

ITEM: I give to my loving wife Pinkey S. Pridgen and my son Hardy Pridgen, Abijah Pridgen and my daughter Cloah Atkinson all the money that I have not given away and accounts and notes to be equally divided between them, also all the residue of my estate that I have not heretofore given away nor lent to be equally divided between them which I give them and their heirs forever.

ITEM: I hereby appoint my son Abijah Pridgen and Benjamin Atkinson ny executors to this my last will and testament revoking all others heretofore made by me. Witness my hand and seal the day and year above written.

The foregoing will was duly proven in open court by the subscribing witness John Vick and Jacob Barnes and Nancy S. Bottoms and ordered to be recorded.
