The L' besides-forest
History circle and of archeology of the l'Alsace of the North


Been founded in 1972 by Vonau John-Laurent and Streicher John-Claude, the history Circle and of archeology of the l'Alsace of the North (CHAAN) count close to 1.000 members. In the spring 1999, the genealogical workshop of the Wissembourg and vicinity l'arrondissement is itself affilié to our association. Thus, the narrow collaboration between our two associations allows to offer a wide palette of archeological, historic and genealogical activities to our members and to all the fascinated history mouvementée of the l'Alsace of the North.
The Circle publishes a trimestrielle magazine, the l' Besides-Forest (64 orderlies in average). His average circulation is of 1.300 copies. She is distributed to the subscribing members, but is located equally in sale in different bookstores or houses of the press of the Low-Rhin.

Geographic sector: Wholesale, the former arrondissement of Wissembourg, limited by the Country of Hanau to the west, the Vosges of the North and the Lauter to the north, the Rhin to the east, and the forest of Haguenau to the south.
Objectives of the association: Do to know the history of the l'Alsace of the North through various activities: archeological work-sites, genealogical workshops and paléographique, stand in the local demonstrations, lectures and, very evidently, publication of items in the trimestrielle magazine the l' Besides-Forest.
The approached subjects in the magazine are numerous and varied. Certain special numbers completely are consecrated to a theme or to a locality: for example, the water in the l' Besides-Forest (n° 57), the Hatten-Rittershoffen battle (January 1945)(n° out many series times réédité), the nutrition in the l' Besides-Forest ( To Drink and eat in the l' Besides-Forest) (n° 84), childhood (n° 100), Birlenbach-Drachenbronn(N° 10 and 104) or, soon, Lampertsloch (n° 110, fine parution June 2000).
