LETTERS

Anna Maria Kiefer and John Gossart were the parents of Elizabeth Gossart, who m. Philip Replogle, Jr. (112:2); see Replogle-Reprogle Genealogy (1984), pp. 49-50. In 1991 I helped VIOLA MULLEN (475 Mullen Banks Rd., Morehead, KY 40351; a descendant of George and Catherine Canode Gossard) in contacting WALTER N. (WALLY) COLE, of 132 Mtn. Fuel Station, Green River, WY 82935. In April, 1992, Cole wrote “much of my Keefer research was done at least 20 years ago... I received help from a researcher in France on my line. Find that my line on John Jacob Keefer of 1718 ends up not being too far in distance from what I call the famous Keefers of Berks Co. (PA). Not too much has been published (as far as I know) on my Lebanon Co. Keefers, but (I) did get accepted by the Hugenot Sociey... The earlier families in Lebanon (Co., PA) area not yet connected, Valentine & Vincess -- John Martin & others. In trying to make a tie (I) did work these families pretty hard. Would be difficult to go through all my records. Visited a relative on Will line in San Diego last month & she refers to my large amount of data as ‘Wally’s Stuff.’ Aptly So! ...”

His interesting work sheet for the Hugenot Society, a copy of which he enclosed, shows:

“My Huguenot ancestor was Bartholomaus Kieffer, b. at ? in 1606, d. at Goersdorf, France on 6 February 1690, m. to Anna N.N. __ on 1604. (Note: The marriage date of 1604 appears in error.)

“His son was Hans Jacob Kieffer, b. 1646, d. at Goersdorf, France on 12 Jan 1704, m. at Goersdorf (Canton - Woerth, Rhin Bas, France) on 13 May 1763 to Anna Stephan, d. at Preuschdorf, France ...“ The lineage continues at Goersdorf for another two generations, then Hanover Twsp., Lebanon Co., PA, etc. and finally to Wally.

As I now have it, Anna Maria Kiefer (the wife of John Gossart and mother of Elizabeth Gossart Replogle, was b. 26 February 1758 at Lancaster, PA. Her father was John Martin Kieffer, b. before 1730, resided Bethel Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, Bethel Twp., Dauphin Co., PA, and Lebanon, PA in 1781. John Martin’s father was Johann Melchoir Kieffer, b. 1 Nov 1686 at Goersdorf, Rhin Bas, France. Johann Melchoir Kieffer’s father was Johan Jacob Kieffer who m. Anna Stephan. It is possible (or probable) that these last Kieffers knew or were related to Johan Jacob Reblogel and/or Johann Jacob Reblaub, both of Goersdorf (see “Reblogel place names,” above). If so, the relationship lasted a long time, all the way to Philip Replogle at Ohio.

Information has come from JOY A. WISEMAN, 1028 S. Vassault #4, Tacoma, WA 98465 (wife of genealogy I.D. 11C:832:22 Ray Duval Wiseman / Florence Ethyl Replogle Wiseman / Josiah Wellington Replogle / Josiah B. [or D.] Replogle / Peter / John / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ? ) as follows: “My husband’s mother was a Replogle - dau. of Josiah W. Her only brother was Ray W. Replogle, so having no children, the Replogle name ended in this branch of the family ...” She had one dau., Tamia Joy Wiseman, b. 13 Mar 1952. Tamia m. Christopher Romuald Herchold and they had four children.

Considerable family history data was received from MARCIA RUTH REPLOGLE KREIDER (114:438:133; see Fall, 1992, p. 5). She sent 39 completed family group sheets, “with as much information as I was able to obtain about my grandfather’s family - William Arthur Replogle (114:438:1)... Also, during my investigation, I found that William Arthur had 2 brothers and a sister. I believe one brother, Mahlon Henry (114:438:2) is included in Replogle-Reprogle Genealogy. The other brother, John Elvin (114:438:3) died in childhood. His sister, Mary Elsie (114:438:4) m. Reomer L. Griffth, and they were the parents of 11 ch. One of their sons, Roy M. Griffith (114:438:44) of R.D. #1, Martinsburg, PA 16662, would be able to supply you with information about that family.”

Events took an unexpected turn, and subsequently I received a letter from VICKIE BROOKS, 7611 East Arbory Court, Laurel, MD 20707 (Genealogy I.D. 114:438:446, Vickie Louise Griffith Brooks / Roy Milton Griffith / Mary Elsie Replogle Griffith / Christian Zook Replogle / Daniel Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ? ) with several completed family group sheets: “My name is Vickie Brooks and I am answering your letter in place of my father, Roy M. Griffith. For the last five years my parents and myself have been researching the Griffith familly. In our travels and research we have only touched the Replogle side... I have included family group sheets for Reomer (my grandfather) (who m. 1st Mary Elsie Replogle, genealogy I.D. 114:438:4) and his family, also my father’s family (Roy Griffith) (I.D. 114:438:44). Several interesting articles were written in the Morrison Cove ‘By Gone Days,’ publications about different Replogle families... I am using software from the Mormons called ‘Personal Ancestral File,’ release 2.1 for MS-DOS computers... I work in Washington, DC close to the Capitol and Library of Congress.”
