THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA DOROTHEA TRAUTMANN AND JOHANN JACOB REPLOGEL

On or about 24 May 1988 I received a letter and chart (see page 1) from C. FREDERICK KAUFHOLZ F.A.S.G. of R.R. 1 Box 12, Lakeville, CT 06039. Altho he Is not a Replogle-Reprogle descendant, he has knowledge of the Trautmanns, a family allied to the Reblogels in Alsace. He wrote: 'Wally Cole of Green River, WY, sent me a copy of a letter & Replogel data, from Mme Peres of Strasbourg, originally sent to you. I don't know where he came upon it but I thought that if you had not been able to trace your Trautmann line farther, that this table would interest you.
'My grandmother Trautmann was descended from a younger half brother of your ancestor. Her grandfather who was born in the Chateau at Woerth brought his large family to America in 1833. I have been a guest of my late cousin, Andre Trautmann in the Chateau."
Kaufholz mistakenly thought I was a descendant of Johann Jacob Reblogel, I.D. UA-3.1, son of Balthasar Reblogel, who is I.D. UA-3 in our 1984 book, "The Replogle-Reprogle Genealogy." Balthazar UA-3 had another son Johann Balthasar UA-3.2 who is probably the same person as the Balzer, I.D. 12 in the 1984 book, who appears at York County, PA in 1779.
Woerth is a town in France (Bas-Rhin district) located near towns in which the Rablogel family lived in the period ca. 1550-1750. The interesting chart on page 1 shows, at bottom center, the marriage on 23 Jan 1742 of Johann Jacob Replogel to Maria Dorothea Trautuann, who was born 4 Aug 1721.
The Mme Peres mentioned was a professional genealogy researcher of Strasbourg, France, who did research on the Reblogel family in 1983.
On 4 June 1988 C. Frederick Kaufholz again wrote to me: "The enclosed newspaper clip-ping (shows a photo of Pearl Replogle, age 101, genealogy ID unknown) appeared just after I wrote to you last. Noble Horizons is a home for the elderly in Salisbury. "My grand-mother's great grand father Trautmann bought the Chateu de Woerth in 1789 from the French government and his son, my great great grand-father, Philippe-Henri Trautmann, sold the chateau to his half-brother, Frederic, in 1833, and came to America with his wife and 7 children. His youngest daughter, whom I knew was born that year in Pittsburg.
"Our family and the French family have kept contact through the years. My father was entertained in the chateau in 1902 when he was studying in Germany, and I was a guest there on more than one occasion until the death of my cousin Andre in 1977.
"I feel sure that the early history of the Replogels can be traced In the record micro-filmed in Salt Lake City. The Henri Suss collection in the Archiv du Bas Rhin in Strasbourg would certainly tell where the family lived in Alsace. This collection must also be on microfilm in Salt Lake City, UT.

LETTERS

From ARLENE MILLER DODWELL OBAN, 1254 W. Pioneer Way # 180, Oak Harbor, WA 98277 (wife of Raymond Nelford Oban, Genealogy ID 112:335:332; Raymond Helford Oban / Frances Louise Radford Oban / Hattie Elizabeth Price Radford        / Narcisea Melissa Replogle Price / Henry Valentine Horn Replogle / Frederick M. / John Philip / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas/ ?), a letter under date of 18 Feb 1993:
"... My husband and I began our genealogy research in 1988 and enjoy it very such. We have gathered a lot of information on different branches of both our families. In 1994 we will visit Denis, TN and see what else we can find on the Replogle and Price families.
"I do not have our genealogy on computer. I have family history forms typed and keep them in three ring binders along with pictures of family members, gravestones, copies of birth and death certificates, etc. I have a friend that has an IBM compatible computer that he thinks your diskettes would fit ..." Arlene sent such Replogle descendant data which added to the database.

JERRI BURKET (see Newsletter for Fall, 1992, p. 4 and Summer, 1993, p. 2),, in a letter of 21 Nar 1993: '... My success rate for getting additional family information for you is not so hot. Everyone agrees quite willingly to write their family data down for me, but somehow they Just don't get around to It ... Christie Ann Loy (114:436:3A3:1) m. David Allan Ripic of Endicott, NY, on 31 Dec 1992. Dave was b. 27 Feb 1966, son of John Joseph Ripic Jr and Ann Marie (Romanaki) Ripic."

From LEONA BLOCHER BETTERIDGE (Newsletter Spring 1993, p. 5), a letter of 29 March 1993: "...Do you know of anyone working with the old records in France to learn more of the ancestry of Andreas? Do we know when this area's oldest records are kept? It may be we can learn more about them ... we would like to learn what has been searched and who is actively working on then... We also wonder about the Weymart and Koenig families and if others have gotten into any research on them in Hofen and nearby areas ..." She sent updated in-formation on her family. In 1983 genealogy research was done in certain records located at Strasbourg, France. It was done by Marie-Odile Peres. She checked parish records, including Lampertsloch and Soultz, and noted "The records of Soultz will allow fine work back to the early 1590 ...' but mentions "... as parish records are not couplete from 1590 to 1770, it seems that other type of records will have to be used ... notary records especially." For Soultz Sous Forets, she writes: "marriage records fail from years 1680 to 1738 She speaks of "death records ... notary records ... inventories of goods left by parents in Soultz (estates, partakes) ..." Also, "baptisms about 1650-1660 seemingly uncomplete." She checked records of Preuschdorf, Woerth, Lembach and Goersdorf and notes at one point: "no Reblogel in them." It seems part or all of these records may be on microfilm at the L.D.S. library, Salt Lake Cityl UT. The 'Cleebourg film" at SLC has been checked and nothing was found for Reblogel. I can send additional information on request.

From PAUL J. BROVONT, R.R. 2, Box 131, Camden, IN 46917 (ID 11E:33A:l, Paul J. Brovont / Addie Replogle / John / David / Peter / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ? ) a letter dated 2 Apr 1993. He subscribed to the newsletter.

From BARBARA REPLOGLE SPEARS, 1905 Bellevue Way, Tallahassee, FL 32304 (ID 11E:242:421:1; Barbara Replogle Spears / Floyd Charles Replogle, Jr. / Floyd Charles, Sr. / Walter R. / Horatio C. / David / Christian / Peter / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ? ) a letter dated 2 Apr 1993: 'I am happy to give you any information about the Replogle family that I have. The only thing is, I got married! I'm not sure if you can use it! Anyway, good luck with your genealogical search.' She sent along data for her and her husband.

From BENSON T. REPLOGLE, 2737 Kildaire Dr., Parkville, MD 21234 (ID 114:481:7, Benson T. Replogle / Joseph Wilson / Samuel Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ?) a letter dated 4 Apr 1993: "I'll see if I can keep this straight! Our daughter Mary had two children, Rachel B. Hatch and Timothy John Hatch. Rachel B. had two children after her uarriage to Frank J. Mack Jr. They had two children, Rachel Mack and Christafer Mack. Shakespeare must have had a saying for all this but it escapes me at the present."

From THERESA M. REPROGLE, 1357 Sunny Trail Court, O'Fallon, MO 63366 (wife of Layton J. Reprogle who is the grandson of Truman Ward Reprogle, ID 11C:729:4, Truman Ward / George M. / Peter / John, Jr. / John, Sr.        / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ?) a letter of April 1993: ". I would be pleased to send you the information I have on George M. Reprogle's downlines..."

From CLYDA GOODFELLOW of P.O. Box 933, Burney, CA 96013 (ID 112:348:111, Clyda Lou Sharp Goodfellow / Clyde Fredrik Zedmore Sharp / Ada Casiena Keath Sharp / Daniel Frederick Keath / Susannah Margaret Replogle Keath / Frederick M. Replogle / John Philip / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ?), by letters of April, 1993: "... I am very much an amateur in genealogy. Most of my information was compiled my dad's (Clyde ...) oldest sister, Cleo Ione Sharp Bross and has been carried on by cousins.
"In February of this year, my cousin Jean Woodward of Casper, WY sent me 'our' Replogle lineage and some photocopies from the book that Joyce Terrana is compiling ..."Ethelyn Robison is a granddaughter of Daniel Frederic Keath and Nancy Louisa Catharine Garrison. She sent me the bible family record of D.F. and Nancy and also the bible family record of Stephen and Ada Casiena Keath Sharp.
"Ethelyn put me in touch with Medford and Dorris Keath of Sabinal, TX. Medford is the Sr. grandson of Micajah and Susannah; grandson of James Henry Keath and Zelpha Jane Fowler and son of Thomas Erle Keath and Cora Bell Forbes. The Keaths have loads of information and have kindly shared some of it with me. (Micajah & Susannah's bible family record.) I am enclosing a photocopy of what Keaths think is Micajah and Susannah ..." Clyda sent much data that I keyed into the computer.

From Wally Cole (newsletter, Spring, 1993, p. 3) in a letter dated 29 April 1993: '... Next week plan to head for Penn. Have gone there for past two years.
"Admire you for getting computerized. Haven't gotten that much courage.
"Noted reference to one man working on the transfer (of data to computer) for 7 years. Bet my data would take longer than that.
"Will watch for Replogles on my trip. May go to Ft. Wayne library again. Want to go in area above Harrisburg and for sure Albrite library (Berks Co.) Gen. Soc. In Reading (PA) again." I have been converting Replogle-Reprogle data to computer (mostly from the 1984 book) since I retired on 1 March 1991; I can relate to the man's seven year project.

From JEAN HOOVER, 509 E. Allegheny St., Martinsburg, PA 16662 (ID 114:415:24l Jean Elizabeth Replogle Hoover / Gaius Emmert Replogle / Joseph Zook / George Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ?) letter of April 1993, she determined her ancestors as given above, and asked 'When is the deadline for sending any information that I have?" As of yet, there is no deadline since I don't know yet how long its going to take me to convert the 1984 book to computer.

From A. JACK BISHOP, W. 3811 Weile Ave., Spokane, WA 99208 (ID not known), a letter of 3 May 1993: "... I'm the son of Clifford & E. (Beryl?) Wilson Replogle, both deceased. After their separation - my mother, Beryl, married R. Glen Bishop - my step-father, thus my last name.
"My wife, Eve, and self were both b. in OH 30 miles apart - returned to Idaho (she) & Montana (me) as small children, and met in Idaho. We drove to OR in Oct of 1992 & met relatives for the first time. I'll send a copy of your letter to my Aunt Helen (ex-Replogle) In OH, as she has done an exten-sive research on the Replogle family and those connected. I'll ask her to contact you ... "

From CLARENCE WATKINS, 110 Valley Way, Statesboro, CA, 30458 (newsletter, Summer, 1993, p. 3), a letter (n.d.): "I found these names of members of Sons of American Revolution (S.A.R.)..." and listed Harold Huntington, Roger Huntington and C.E. Replogle Jr. I'll give more        about them in the newsletter.

From WILLIAM D. COOPER, 552 Stowe Ave, Baldwin, NY 11510-1625 (ID unknown, but probably a descendant of 11D:3), a letter under date of 7 May 1993: "... I am descended from a Mary Replogle (b. c. 1808 - d. after 1860) who m. Samuel Ripple. They lived in Richland Twp., Cambria Co., PA, and had 7 ch., including my great-grandmother Elizabeth Ripple Cooper. My Mary Replogle is not in the "1984 "Replogle-Reprogle" genealogy, but Mrs. (Madeline) Raymond felt, as I do, that she is in the family of George Replogle Sr. (ID 11D) / John Rinehart. I feel she might be ID 11D:3. It would make sense that the George Sr. - Mary (Stouder) family would have a child named Mary, as so many other families carried the name." I think he is correct, based on locale and the name "Ripple." 11D George Replogle, Sr. had a dau. Sarah who m. John Ripple, Jr., and son George, Jr. who m. Susanna Ripple.

From MYRON B. RENDERSON, 2118 Clarmarnic Dr., Ft. Wayne, IN 46815, a letter dated 13 May 1993: "Your name was given to me by Jann Cripe of Los Angeles, CA in response to my enquiry re one Anna Hereter who was the first wife of Martin Replogle (ID 114:92)." We spell her name as Hearter or Harter.
"Can you give me any Information (or positive leads) concerning Elder Martin Replogle's first wife, Anna Hareter, her family background, her vital statistics and/or their offspring? Data concerning Anna has persistently eluded my efforts for the thirty years during which I have been researching the Harader family... My earliest American Harader generations were found in Berks, Bedford and Somerset Counties, PA and after 1796 in Preston (then Monongalia) Co., (W) VA." I sent him what I had. He wrote back that my Information "proved that Anna Hearter was not the Anna Harader for whom I have been searching..."

From HAROLD HUNTINGTON, 9461 White Oak, St. John, IN 46373 (ID 122:137:41, Harold Nelson Huntington / Jacob Ray Huntington / Sarah Roxada Field Huntington / Anne Elizabeth Replogle Field / David B. Replogle / Jacob        / Balzer [Johann Balthasar?] / Balthazar? / ?), a letter of 31 May 1993: "Cousin Paul: Hurrah for you! Didn't know there was a Replogle book published... Most of the info enclosed is from my Aunt Glo's (ID 122:137:5) DAR application. I used her papers to get into the Sons of the American Revolution... Aunt Glo b. 1902, m. again recently, is still sharp... I have a
picture of the tombstone for Matthias Replogle 1841 - 1922 (ID 122:16) in Mt Tabor Cem near Charleston, IL. Also found one (a Replogle tombstone?) in Potatoe Creek State Park near South Bend, IN. Good Luck!" Harold, who is President of the William Van Gorden chapter, S.A.R., sent much data for the database.

From ARLEN K. MILLER, 9410 9A Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563, ph. 219-936-6931 (ID unknown, probably descendant of Adam, ID 116), a letter of 26 May 1993: 'My ancestors come from the same line as yours John Rhinehart Replogle. Their son Adam Sr. (ID 116) m. Lavina Metsger who had a dau. Catherine (ID 116:7)..."

From ETHELYN ROBISON, of 1402 E. 4th, Mt. Pleasant, TX (ID 112:348:32, Ethelyn Fern Howard Robison / Mary Ethel Keath Howard / Daniel Frederick Keath / Susannah Margaret Replogle Keath / Frederick M. Replogle / John Philip / John Rinehart / Philip / Andreas / ?), in a letter dated 1 June 1993: "I am interested in genealogy but have waited too long to begin now on my own. I will be 82 on June 10 (next week). My husband has been dead since 1979. I am a retired school teacher (21 yrs. ago today) - living alone & very active in my community & church ... I was m. in 1935 to Charles Arthur Robison and have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
"I have the D.F. Keath family bible (in a bad condition). It isn't very complete, but it does have births, & marriages of the children of my grandparents: Daniel F. Keath & Nancy L.C. Garrison.
"My grandparents lived with us 'off & on' - in Brinkley, Ark. for years. I remember that he was one to keep up with his 'kin' & wrote many letters. I remember his saying his father's name was Micajah & his mother was a Replogle. Occasionally some of his relatives would drop by for a visit - but I was too young to recall names. Before grandpa & grandma 'broke up housekeeping' & came to live part time with some of their children - I remember a story about one of his sisters who died at his house. She was a 'medium' & predicted the hour of her death. She asked her sister-in-law 'Nannie' to hurry up & bring her lunch because she would be dead by 12 noon. She was - so the story goes.
"Grandpa played the violin. He called it a 'fiddle' and would entertain the neighborhood kids as he sat on the front porch. He loved to garden & fish. He was a barber before he retired. He was not an artist but at least 2 of his children, Nina & Tom, painted & drew. My mother told me that Grandpa & one of his daughters used to play for community & neighborhood dances.
"Because I have their family bible I have been contacted by several people in the last 4 or 5 yrs, but have never found the time to do serious research myself. Now - tis too late. All the people who knew are no longer living..."

From GLO L. BOWEN, 1506 Church St.9 Simi Valley, CA 93065-3974 (ID 122:137:5, Glo Huntington Lippincott Bowen / Sarah Roxada Field Huntington / Anne Elizabeth Replogle Field / David B. Replogle / Jacob / Balzer [Johann Balthasar?] / Balthazar? / ?), a letter of June, 1993: "... My nephew Harold Huntington has really worked up our genealogy since I Joined the DAR, his wife has helped him so such. But as I was alone I never had such help. But do have good records of the Replogle, Huntington & Lippincotts.
"I have a story of Margaret Replogle Roof (ID 111) who was stolen by the Indians ... also have copy of the death record of my great grandfather David Replogle ... " The story about Margaret is in the 1984 book.
