COMPUTERIZED DATABASE

I'm continuing the job of converting the "Replogle-Reprogle Genealogy" book and other paper files I have, to a computerized file on my personal computer. I've done 140 pages so far, so I've keyed in much data, using the program "Family Roots." This amounts to over 6,000 names with whatever family history I have for each. When done, this will permit me to do genealogy work easier and more quickly. I can make searches through the data easier and faster. For example I can identify all of the persons named John Replogle who lived at a certain location at a certain period. Or make a list of all the persons named Replogle showing their military service, if any. Many Replogles served in the Civil War. It would be interesting to compile a list of these Civil War soldiers, along with their states and unit designations (I'm sure the Northern soldiers will outnumber their Southern counterparts). Although the benefits of this computerized database are many, it requires great gobs of my time to enter all of the information into the computer in the required format, being careful to key in names and dates correctly (eventually, a computer listing of the entire file should be proofread against the book). Also, I'm keying in new family history information I'm receiving from people, in addition to the information from the book. I like to keep up with the letters I receive. After keying this information in, I'm able to print it out in various formats, such as family group sheets, and send copies of these back to people to confirm what I've entered, for any additions or corrections that may be necessary.

LETTERS FAGER FAMILY HISTORY Some time ago Madeline Raymond sent to me a file of correspondence entered into with Barbara V. Powell, who then resided at Medical Lake, WA (she is not at her old address). Mrs. Powell sent to Madeline copies of some Fager family newsletters, some of which concerned Elizabeth Baker and her second husband, Daniel Replogle, Jr. (genealogy ID 11A:8, Daniel Jr. / Daniel, Sr. / John Rinehart [Rinehart Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...). Elizabeth Baker m. first, Caleb Fager on 22 Jun 1822 at Miami Co., OH, probably at Troy. They were divorced. Elizabeth Baker m. second Daniel Replogle, Jr. on 10 Feb 1829 at Montgomery Co., OH; they had 10 children (names and other information is available). I've updated the genealogy computer database for this Fager allied family material.

From GRETTA WESTENBERGER, 756 Rosewood Dr., Palo Alto, CA 94303 (Genealogy ID 119:214:21, Greta Romero Westenberger / Gretta Alma Hadlock Romero / Hattie Alma Hildreth / James T. Hildreth / Mary Ann Replogle / Rinehart / Jacob / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...): Mary Ann Replogle was listed in the "Replogle - Reprogle Genealogy" (1984) as genealogy ID U.88; Gretta found a census entry showing that this Mary Ann was a daughter of Rinehart Replogle 119:2. Gretta had problems: "The (census) film from South Bend, Saint Joseph, IN shows that (marriage Certificates) book one was lost, only the index is on film - the actual record book with the marriage certificates records was misplaced." Of interest, "Richard (or Rinehart?) Replogle (brother of Mary Ann) m. a Catharine Studebaker (of the Studebaker automobile family). Catherine's mother was Mable Kent according to an old piece of paper in an old book of a cousin. Some papers show that Clem (the great wagon maker) Studebaker's wife was a cousin of this family. 'Levi Hildreth (Mary's first husband) worked for Clem Studebaker for some time.' 'Her second husband, John W. Golden, was a friend of Clem's and Clem wanted him to be his partner in the wagon business, but Golden wanted to go to Iowa and make his fortune, but lost one by not staying with Clem --.' 'Mr. Golden was a marvelous worker in iron and steel.' Mary Replogle's husband, Levi Hildreth, rumor has it died when a gun accidentally was fired in a crowded area. I have no proof of this, but this statement was written by a grandchild in some papers the family has."

From MARGARET BURKART, 2216 Rood St., Toledo, OH 43613-3541 (Genealogy ID 112:24F:32, Margaret Alice Replogle Burkart / Frederick Gale Replogle / Ulysses Grant / Frederick George, Sr. / Philip, Jr. / John Philip [Philip, Sr.] / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...): She writes "I hope to use the information (from the "Replogle - Reprogle Genealogy" to prove my eligibility for membership in the DAR. I hope to use your book to clarify the mystery of the two Phillips.. I, too, am retired and have recently purchased a genealogical program for my computer. I haven't begun to enter the information into the system but hope to soon. It is a great way to keep track of everyone and certainly an easier method." As to DAR membership, Madeline Raymond wrote me in March of 1992: "..DAR applications submitted before 1967 required little proof and contained many lineage errors. As of last October, what they called tthe short form applications-- where a family member (i.e.- daughter) went in on another application (i.e.- mother) -- is no longer in use. If statements were not proved on mother's (or whatever relative it was-- aunt, cousin, etc.) application, they now have to be. Unfortunately, I am still Registrar of our DAR chapter and have to check applicant's papers and help them! An applicant also cannot now (a change in rules a few years ago) use a published genealogy for proof like they did previously -- unless items in the genealogy were documented. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that two applicants were successful in using our Replogle (book) for proof for DAR membership." Madeline uses the "Family Roots" computer program for her genealogy research. On the other point, I was glad to hear that she would work on the problems in identifying the persons named John Philip Replogle or Philip Replogle, in various sources. As I mentioned to her in a letter, an important fact to remember is that since the printing of the 1984 book, we learned that Philipp Reblogel, son of Andreas Reblogel, had sons named Johann Philipp, baptised 1 Oct 1724, and Philip (Jr.), two different sons, who were of the same generation as John Rinehart (Rinehart, Sr.) Replogle. This further complicates already frustrating problems. Margaret uses the "LDS Personal Ancestral File" computer program for her genealogy research.

From GERALDINE (“JERRI”) LYNN GRAHAM BURKET, Rt. 2, Box 62C, Mertztown, PA 19539 (wife of Lynn Edward Burket, Genealogy ID 114:436:3A2, Lynn Edward Burket / Edward Replogle Burket / Harriet Viola Replogle / Andrew Zook / Daniel Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...): “I just borrowed a copy of the book (“Replogle - Reprogle Genealogy) from the Hoenstine Rental Library of Hollidaysburg, PA, and was quite astounded to find my name on page 178.. I’m a computer systems analyst for an electric utility in Allentown, PA. One of my programming staff married a Replogle last September (and everyone but me thought it an unusual name!). Audra and I have since been wondering if our husbands were related..” Audra Lynne Peterson is the wife of Robert Paul Replogle, Jr. (genealogy ID 114:432:614:1, Robert Paul Replogle, Jr. / Robert Paul / Daniel Merrill / Daniel Grover / Daniel Zook / Daniel Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas/ ...). Jerri uses the “Roots III” computer program for her genealogy research.

From MARCIA RUTH REPLOGLE KREIDER, 305 Maple St., Martinsburg, PA 16662 (Genealogy ID 114:438:133, Marcia Ruth Replogle / Calvin Arthur / William Arthur/ Christian Zook / Daniel Brumbaugh / Daniel Brown / Rinehart / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...): She writes “Most of my research into our family has been through use of the extensive collection of family files the late George Liebegott compiled. I am enclosing some information about him and his work, which is.. housed at the local (Martinsburg, PA) library. Possibly you already know about his collection. There are 12 loose-leaf notebooks on the Replogles. Using the index, but running short of time, I estimated there are over 2,000 names involved. A major difference between your work and his is that you provided history, places, etc. His are family files. People using the notebooks are encouraged to update the material, and many do so, in pen or pencil, so that one day the pages will need retyped.” She sent along photocopies of articles from the local newspaper. They included the obituary of George H. Liebegott (no date); an article from the local newspaper, the Cove Herald dated May 3, 1990 entitled “Indexes bound, dedicated” by Sharon Snyder, which describes the eight bound volumes of the Liebegott Collection Index which was prepared by Drs. Paul and Helen Holsinger and is at the Martinsburg Community Library; and another article on the same subject entitled “Paul Holsinger completes 7-year indexing project” by Julia Replogle (not identified, but could she be genealogy ID 114:432:637), no date; and a family group sheet prepared in the Liebegott style about his own family, but prepared by someone else. In it, Liebegott is called an “avocational genealogist.” Some of the material in the “Replogle - Reprogle Genealogy” (1984) was based on Liebegott’s work, and in it is an acknowledgement of it, on page xxii. I have visited the library and studied his collection.

RESEARCH NOTES

From Viola Mullen, 475 Mullen Banks Rd., Morehead, KY 40351: Darke Co. Ohio, Greenville Cem., “Eleonora Replogle 1857-1954.” Also, “Shearer Cem. Wayne Twp. no. 5. In Montgomery Co. Ohio Cem. Elizabeth Bucher and resided Wayne Twp. (Montgomery Co.) OH paying taxes on 160 acres between 1810-1820. See “Replogle - Reprogle Genealogy,” p. 253.

From Madeline Raymond: A Card reading, “Still involved with genealogy - added the name of Kauffman and Bomberger out of York Co. PA to my lists. I have joined the Koenig / King Newsletter, but have determined that Eva (Koenig) Fisher’s parents were Abraham & Mary (Weymart) Koenig. She was daughter of Hans Adam & Anna Catherine Weymart.. - Charles R. Apple, 10417 New Bedford Court SE, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.” Madeline notes that this confirms data sent by Leona Betteridge regarding Koenig & Weymart families. John Rinehart Replogle m. Barbara Konig, dau. of Abraham Konig and Anna Maria Weymart. Eva was Barbara’s sister.

Joyce Terrana, 12651 Oak Grove Rd. So., Burleson, TX 76028, is writing a book about the Bowman family. Frederick M. Replogle (genealogy ID 112:3, Frederick M. / John Philip [Philip, Sr.] / John Rinehart [Rinehart, Sr.] / Philip / Andreas / ...) m. Catherine Bowman who Joyce says “was b. c. 1787, Washington Co., MD (she was named after her maternal grandmother, Catherine Bowman, b. c. 1715), d. c. 1861-1869 Madison Co., TN. Catherine’s brother, David Bowman was b. 8 Apr 1794 and we have found his birth / baptismal records at Clear Springs, MD, St. Paul’s Union Ch. in Washington Co., MD.”
