Some Underwood girls over a hedge..... |
The Underwood family has long been one of
Quakers and farmers. Our Underwoods came from
Pennsylvania to Columbiana County, Ohio, moved to
Waynesville and Isaac went on to Indiana. My Great
Great Grandfather Isaac was born in 1817, married in 1855
and died in 1878 leaving a 12 and 17 year old. His
wife Catherine never remarried. She raised their
children and saw them both married with children of their
own before they died at 26 and 29 years of age. She
then raised her grandson, Arthur, and greatly impacted my
grandmother's life.
Catherine was a Dakin, and the only child of Susanna Seaman and James Dakin. Susanna died shortly after Catherine was born and James then married Nancy Rich. The only Catherine I know is the one remembered fondly by my grandmother. Grandma cherished her time with Catherine and her Underwood ties. Copyright © 1999-2002 by PPA. All rights reserved. |
