1900 Dickinson County Kansas Census Index - Unknowns
Ok - I've been working (slowly) on transcribing the 1900 Federal Census for Dickinson County, Kansas.
There are multiple enumeration districts, and multiple census takers. Some handwriting is illegible, some pages are impossible, some are perfect. Someone in one of my email groups sent an interesting message about a 12 year old who was thrilled to be taking the census and making so much money for such easy work....It helps explain some of the names I've found.
This is NOT a complete index. This covers only the first 12000 lines or so. It hasn't been proofread by anyone. It is presented here in the hope that you will recognize someone and tell me that you know Edna May * is really Edna May Swartz or that Fuiemt is really Emmett.
If I can't see this new information in the census I'm reading, I may NOT change the entry - but I certainly can put the information in the remarks column and fix the index so Edna May shows up with the Swartz's.
If you are able to find your missing link - let me know...it will make it easier to finish the last 100 pages or so.
When this is finished it will be part of the USGenWebCensusProject.
This first section is all the poor people who have no last name - the column is covered with tape, names covered with annotations or written by someone with a leaky pen.
Note - line number '999' is really 100 - it made the sorting easier.
