He's buried in San Paulo, Ca. parents: (Hans Laprath Jr.&Anna Margretha Cathrina HimpKamp). He was born in Simonsberg, Schleswig Province,Germany . He was 37 when they married. He met his wife on a trip to New York in Louisiana. , she was 13. They were divorced after about twenty years when Isabelle was exposed to the rugged conditions of living in the primitive area of Eastern Oregon., known as "The Narrows" SW of Burns, OR. To them were born:

George Thomas b. Feb 7, 1894 in Tulare, Ca., d. 1981. wed Mary Coles b. 1899,in Mt. Vernon, New York., d. 1982

Marybelle b.August 4, 1910 near Feather River,OR, died 1988., wed Eddie Sherrod, 2nd hus. John Henry Martin b.1908, d. 1965. he was from South Carolina. George Jr. said of Andreas: He earned his living as a commercial artist in San Francisco, He once had his muruals displayed at the Panama Exposition in San Francisco. He was effluent in 7 different languages, and was a market hunter in the Oregon and Washington areas for a number of years. He had a contribution to the design and construction of a large hotel in Spokane (the Davenport, as confirmed by his grandson William who lives in Spokane and has worked on renovations to the same hotel). Andreas painted pictures in San Francisco and sold wild game to the Davenport Hotel as well as hunted birds for feathers for the fashion markets.

Andreas was undoubtedly the first to leave the family. At the age of 16, he and his brother Mathias traveled ahead on the first ship with theirfather to America. Ten years later in the 1880 census he does not appear with the family. He did a great deal of roaming and never stayed any one place for very long.

From William LaPrath (grandson): Andreas served as a sheriff while in Oregon. Once he was told to arrest an old Indian who lived in the area who went by the name of old Mose. Mose was known for having a valuable gold watch and cane with a solid gold top. Andreas tracked him down and while taking him in Moses asked if he could stop at some caverns to hide his valuables. Andreas agreed and Mose entered the Caverns and after some time returned. Moses was hung when Andreas turned him over, but Andreas never went back to the caverns and the watch was never found.

From Catherine Laird. (granddaughter):

Andreas and Isabelle lived south of Fresno near the oil land of a man named Kettleman whom Andreas became friends with. George Thomas was born here in a small house by Tulare. In a couple of years Andreas tiring of waiting for Kettleman to find his oil, headed north to the area around burns Oregon where he hunted birds for feathers to sell to the fashion market. It was in the remote parts of Oregon that Marybelle was born near what she called the Feather River. This was probably at the homestead at Malheur Lake. It was in the rough conditions of Eastern Oregon that Isabelle tired of the wilderness and left Andreas for sunnier climes in California.

Andreas homesteaded south of Burns, Oregon near Malheur Lake. He died in California in poverty, and was buried in an unmarked grave. The date and place of death for Andreas were given me by his grandson, George A. LaPrath, Sr. in a telephone conversation. George Andrew, with the help of his siblings has had the ashes of Andreas moved to San Paulo, CA (outside of San Francisco) where his son George Thomas is buried and placed a marker. Of the brothers I have information on Andreas died the last at the age of about 82. He was also one of the three brothers that went prospecting to Arizona where one was shot.

(original reference for LA CSA soldiers) says on him.

<Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers and Louisiana Confederate

"Pearce, John Wallace Pvt. Co. D, 27th La. Inf. En. March 8, 1862, Iberville, La.

Let me tell you what I know so far.

William Pearce d. March 1720

m. Isabella Pearce d. 1729

Had children:

Gideon Pearce, Benjamin Pearce, Daniel Pearce, Elizabeth Ward, Isabella Johnson, and Sarah Hopkins

Gideon Pearce, son of William Pearce and Isabella, m. Beatrice Codd, dau. of Col. St. Ledger and Mary Hanson Codd, and d. August 1751.

Gideon and Beatrice had James Pearce, George Pearce, David Pearce, Andrew Pearce, Nathaniel Pearce, Mary Pearce, Sarah Kennard, Elizabeth Scott and Isabella Pearce and a grandson, William Pearce

James Pearce, first born to Gideon and Beatrice Pearce, had a child, m. Catharine Susana Shannon, August 1771. James d. 1802 leaving child Isabella Pearce Freeman, b. 27th July 1772, James Pearce, Gideon Pearce, William Pearce, Elizabeth Pearce, Ann Pearce and Catharine Pearce.

Gideon Pearce, son of James and Catharine Susanna Shannon Pearce m. Julia Dick, dau. of Dr. Elisha Cullen Dick, of Alexandria, VA and had two children, James Alfred Pearce and Ann Ophelia Pearce.

Also, It sounds like this is the same Gideon that you speak of because Gideon's son, James Alfred Pearce, went to Louisiana in 1824 to join his father, Gideon, who was engaged in sugar planting on the Red River. \

Hope this helps.

Hello Bob,

I got your address from another Pearce researcher and hope you connect to my family. I have in my line Sarah Hopkins (d/o Joseph born 1698) who married Moses Tredway in MD.

I just found a 1729 will for Isabel Pearce (w/o William) where she left items to her daughter Sarah Hopkins and her grandson Joseph Hopkins. Do you have any information on this family showing the husband of Sarah and who the younger Joseph married? I believe Sarah may have been the grandmother of my Sarah. I will share anything I have which you need.

Thanks for your time,

Ron Dawson
