Added February 7, 2000
Surnames in CAPITALS indicate my lineage.

This genealogy report was generated using Family Treemaker, and then edited for better display. Several books (noted below) form the basis for this report, as well communication with other Kimler cousins who have done extensive research. I have also visited websites for Loudoun Co, VA; McLean Co and Dewitt Co, IL; and Monroe Co, IA. Sources are available upon request.

Generation No. 1

1.John1 KIMLER, Sr. was born in Germany, and died Jun 17 - Sep, 1792 in Loudoun Co, VA. He (1) married "spouse number 1" in Germany. She died. He (2) married Margaret EVANS May 09, 1753 in New Castle, DE. She died.

Notes for John KIMLER, Sr.:
John came from Germany and settled in Loudoun Co, VA. (my NOTE: did John remarry after coming to the New World? His 4 children were born in Germany. Son John was born about 1750, prior to the marriage date of 1753 for John and Margaret.) The Kimler family is mentioned in "Old Family Records, Number 5" and "Biographical Album of McLean County, IL, 1887", pages 700 and 1175. In the "Biographical Album...", John is listed as a native of Germany who emigrated to America after his marraige and settled in VA, where all his children were born. He was a blacksmith by occupation and followed his trade in Loudoun County the greater part of his life. This book appears to mix up John the father and John the son, who were both born in Germany and immigrated to the New World. There are 2 John Kimler's (Kimbler) in the tax records of Loudoun Co, VA:

1787: John Kimbler 0-0-1-2; John Kimbler, Jr. 0-0-2-1
1788: John Kimbler 0-0-1-0; John Kimbler, Jr. 0-0-1-1
1789: John Kimler, Sr. 1-0-0-1; John Kimbler, Jr. 1-0-0-1

(my NOTE: This would have been before John, III, was born in 1796.) In the index to "Loudoun Co Wills, 1757-1850" by Hutchinson, John Kemlar is listed in book D, page 251, with a will made in 1792 that listed a daughter Sarah, son John, and an unnamed wife. The book "Abstracts of Wills, Inventories, and Adminstration Accts. of Loudoun 1757-1800" by King lists the will date of Jun 17, 1792, and probate date of Sept 1792. In addition to John and Sarah, it says that other children are listed in the will. Son John was the "Exors". (my NOTE: it appears that there is additional information available on the actual will, of which a copy has not be obtained by me.)

Notes for Moses Kimler:
The "Loudoun Co. Miltia Journals 1793-1829" by Blincoe list that on Oct 1808, Moses Kimbler, Cpt. Edwards Co, had 1 fine for missing the May muster. In the "Biographical Album of McLean County, IL, 1887", there is a portrait of Moses that is here paraphrased:

Moses learned the blacksmith trade from his father. He worked at this trade in Loudoun Co, VA, until 1815. A few years after his marraige, he moved by wagon and then flatboat down the Ohio River to Maysville, KY, with his wife and 3 children. His brother John also went with him. At Maysville, they stopped for 2 weeks in order that Moses could earn enough money to get them to Bourbon Co, KY. He worked as a blacksmith in Bourbon Co, KY, until 1824. From there, they went to what is now Indianapolis, IN. They settled near Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co, IN, where he purchased 80 acres. He built a large log house and operated a hotel. On the side, he continued his blacksmith trade. They remained in IN until 1834. At that time, he moved to McLean Co, IL, settling in a grove about 1 mile south of present day LeRoy. He purchased a town lot laid out by John W. Baddeley and built a log house and blacksmith shop. However, the town did not flourish, so when LeRoy was established, he moved there. Moses continued his trade as long as he was able to work, he officially retired in 1847. Moses and Mary had 10 children.

Notes for Samuel SCHOOLEY, Jr.:
Samuel may be the son of Samuel and brother to Israel. That would mean his grandfather was William, son of Samuel, son of Robert, son of Robert, son of Robert. (my NOTE: this needs further investigation.) Samuel patented land in McLean Co, IL, and the original land patent lists his name as Samuel, JR. The closest neighbor to Samuel was that of the Harrolds (whose daughter Lucinda married William Columbus Williams.) Samuel's land was 15 miles SE of John Kimler's. Samuel bought the family bible on Jun 7, 1837. It was passed down through the Williams line through his daughter Mary Schooley.
