OBITUARY
Marvin Lemeul Scruggs (NC newspaper)
The funeral will be Monday for Marvin Lemeul Scruggs, 63, 1605 N. Main St who died Thursday (Dec. 16, 1993) at the Salisbury VA Medical Center after being in declining health for two years.
Born June 20, 1930, in Hurt, Va., Scruggs was a son of the late Edward C. and Bertha Fielder Scruggs. Educated in the Pittsylvania County Schools in Hurt, Va., he was retired as a conductor from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
A U. S. Army veteran, he served in the 351st Infantry, Internal Security Division, from 1952 -54 in Korea and Triest, Italy. He was awarded the National Service Medal.
He was a 20-year member of Logan-Avondale VFW Post 2978 of Chicago, Ill., and a life member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Hurt, Va.
Survivors include wife Kristine Keske Scruggs; sons Philip A. and D. Michael Scruggs, both of Salisbury (D. Michael Scruggs was not of Salisbury, Hurt, Va. is the correct location), and Thomas R. Morris, Salisbury; and Diane M. Scruggs, Mrs. Dean (Althea L.) Smith and Shawna L. Scruggs, all of Salisbury; brothers Rufus E. and James C. Scruggs, both of Spencer; Malcolm C. Scruggs, Hurt, VA., Fairfax H. Scruggs of Powhatan, Va., and Hugh P. Scruggs, Kenosha, Wis.; sisters Mrs. John (Clara)Harper, Virginia Walker, Ruby Layne and Mrs. Dave (Ruth) Davis, all of Hurt, Va., and Mrs. Lonnie (Naomi) Rice, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday, (December 20, 1993) Summersett Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Reese, pastor of New Baptist Church. Burial in the National Cemetery of Salisbury.
Interment: U.S. National Cemetery, Salisbury, and N. C. 408
