In Pittsylvania Co Court Record Book 69, Page 505, 21 Dec 1903 - "The Court appoints W O Smith Guardian of Samuel Farmer the infant child of John D. Farmer dec'd. And thereupon the
said W O Smith entered into a bond in the penalty of Nine Hundred Dollars conditioned according to law with E A Smith his surety therein who justified on oath as to his sufficiency and which said bond being acknowledged by the obligors therein is ordered to be recorded."

Howell who made oath as the law directs and entered into a bond in the penalty of Fifteen Hundred dollars conditioned according to law, with Ida B. Farmer and Signora T. McMinnis his sureties therein (who justified on oath as to their sufficiency and which said bond being acknowledged by the obligors therein, is ordered to be recorded) certificate is granted the said
E. T. Howell for obtaining letters of administration on the estate of J. D. Farmer deceased in due form."
