John Collins
John Collins was the son of Henry and Francis (Martin) Collins. He was born in Oglethorpe Co. GA. March 13, 1819. His parents moved to Marshall Co., TN, sometime after the 1824 census of Oglethorpe Co., GA.
John married Mary C. Cowden daughter of John and Elizabeth (Norris) Cowden, on March 25, 1846, in Marshall Co., TN. To this union was born seven children, the first three, Frances E., Henry Clay and James W. were born in Marshall Co., TN. John and his family moved to Christian Co., MO where the next four children, John Day, Alex H., Lucy M. and Joseph L. were born.
John settled in Selmore, Christian Co., MO around 1853. He acquired a large among of land in Christian Co. and was a prominent citizen of the community. He served as Sheriff & Collector from, Nov 1862 - Nov 1864.
John died before 1888 according to one of his decedents. Mary Cowden Collins died April 10, 1891 and is buried in the Collins Cemetery, Selmore, Christian Co., MO.
John Collins and my ggg-grandmother Sidney Collins White were brother and sister. Both settling in Christian Co., Mo in the 1850s.
