THOMAS
JOHNSON BORN 1805
Was in
Forsyth (formerly Stokes) Co, NC in
1850
Who are his parents and where did they come
from?
The 1850 & 1860 Census, Forsyth Co, NC lists Thomas & Mary Johnson living in the Bethania twp of Forsyth Co with 1 son, Nathaniel.
Nathaniel married Elizabeth Allen from Yadkin County, NC and settled in Yadkin County. It is not known if Thomas and Mary lived out their lives in Forsyth County or joined their son in Yadkin County. They have not been found in any Census after 1860 or in any burial records.
It was common for the same names to be repeated throughout each generation. One of the most well documented Johnson families is the family of William Johnson (1732 - 1765) who came from Wales to Charlestown, SC, to Georgetown, SC and up the Pee Dee and Yadkin River and settled along the Yadkin River separating Forsyth and Yadkin Counties, NC. This area is known today as Tanglewood Park in Forsyth County. In my research of this Johnson family and my family, I have found that names duplicated among family members of William Johnson appear in my Johnson family and carried throughout subsequent generations. Those names are Wesley, Wiley and Hiram, along with John and William. Neither I or others researching the Johnsons have been able to connect these two families.
