Archer, James O. From information contributed by The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 1610, Monroeville, Alabama, Steve Stacey, compiler, James O. Archer was a Confederate Pensioner living in Monroville, Alabama, on January 1, 1922. He is buried at Monroeville Methodist Cemetery, Monroeville, Ala.(Back to Muster Roll)Blair, William. It appears from later documentation, there were TWO William Blair's that served in Company F -- father and son both named William Blair. Son William enlisted at age 18 in 1862 and Father William enlisted sometime later in 1863. Both father and son fought at Missionary Ridge and William (the father) was captured. William (the father) was sent to Louisville, Kentucky, for exchange but then appears on the Prisoner of War records at Rock Island. William (the father) was received at the prison on December 11, 1863, and died on February 4, 1964, of pneumonia. He is buried in grave number 364. The father's widow applied for a pension in 1899. When William (the son) applied for pension benefits in 1898, he confirmed that he had been shot in the right arm at Missionary Ridge. William (the son) died in 1910 and his widow applied for a pension in 1914.

Blanton, Joseph William: Known as Joe, Blanton was born 11 Mar 1839 in Lawrenceville, Henry Co., Ala. and died 23 August 1862. His military death notice states that Joseph W. Blanton, Private, of Captain John DeLoach's Company F, 36th Alabama, was born in Henry County, and at age 23, enlisted at Monroeville on 10th of April 1862 to serve for three years. He died at Oven Bluff on 23 August 1862 and is buried at buried at Medlock Cemetery in Perdue Hill, Monroe County, Ala.
Joseph W. Blanton was the first son born to John W. Blanton and Nancy Culpepper. In about 1859-1860, Joseph Blanton married Eleanor Anderson. Eleanor was born in 1839 in South Carolina and was the daughter of John J. Anderson (b. 1804 in SC) and Eleanor Anderson (b. 1810 in SC). Before he joined Company F, Joe and Eleanor had one child, a daughter named Joseph Laura Blanton. She was born on 7 Sept 1860 in in Henry Co., Ala. Ellen Anderson Blanton married Thomas E. Brown in Monroe County, Alabama, in January 1872.

Brown, Luke Avery. According to the 1907 Census of Confederate Veterans in Alabama, Luke Avery Brown enlisted as a private in Company F of the 36th Alabama Volunteers on October 1862 in Mobile, Alabama. Brown is listed in official records as being admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Dalton, Georgia. where he was diagnosed as suffering from debilitas (abnormal bodily weakness or feebleness). He returned to duty on June 22, 1863.According to Federal records, Luke Avery Brown was captured at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. He is listed on a roll of prisoners received at Louisville, Kentucky on December 7, 1863, from Nashville, Tennessee. Brown was transferred to the POW camp at Rock Island Barracks, Ill. on December 8, 1863. Luke Brown was listed with prisoners of war to be exchanged on February 25, 1865. After the prisoner exchange, Luke Avery Brown rejoined the 36th Alabama and was with it when it surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865. Brown was paroled on June 16, 1865, at Mobile, Alabama -- the same place where he started the War 2 1/2 years earlier. Born on Oct. 12, 1844, Luke Avery Brown died on July 7, 1917, and is buried in Mexia Baptist Cemetery, Mexia, Ala.

Coleman, Miram. Coleman's name appeared on Company's I's Muster Roll of May 13th, 1862. However, his name is listed as a Private of Company F of the 36th in the lists of Confederate dead at Rock Island, Illinois. He was captured and died on January 14, 1864, as a Prisoner of War at the Rock Island camp. Coleman is buried in grave number 198 at Rock Island. (Back to Muster Roll)DeLoach, John. From information contributed by The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 1610, Monroeville, Alabama, Steve Stacey, compiler, John DeLoach was born on September 28, 1817, and died on September 25, 1900. These records indicated that DeLoach resigned as Captain of Company F. DeLoach served as the Clerk of Court for Monore County, Alabama, from 1855 - 1880. Downs, Thomas Lindsey. The 1907 Census of Confederate Veterans in Alabama, lists Thomas Lindsey Downs, born 1832 Woodbury, Meriwether Co, Georgia, as a Private from Company F, 36th Alabama. (Back to Muster Roll)
Eubanks, James Napoleon. From the 1907 Confederate Census, Escambia Co., Ala: Born 13 Mar 1846 in Ala.; Married 3 Oct 1906 to Ellen Angeline Corley in Knoxville, Tenn.; Died 21 Mar 1934 in Pensacola, Escambia County, Fla. James Eubanks has a copy of a badly deteriorated paper giving him parole from the army in May 1865. It states his company as 36th Ala. The other handwriting is mostly names and mostly unreadable. Foster, William. Listed as "Wm. Foster" on the rolls of Rock Island prisoners, young William Foster was one of several members of the 36th Alabama that were captured and held as a Prisoner of War at the Rock Island camp in Illinois. William Foster died on June 9, 1864, and is buried in grave number 1,476 at Rock Island. (Back to Muster Roll)

Frye, John W. After enlisting at age 29, John W. Frye was captured and died a Prisoner of War at the Rock Island, Illinois, camp on December 14, 1863. The first prisoners were brought to Rock Island from Lookout Mountain on December 3, 1864, and unfortunately, some of the captured soldiers were found to have smallpox. John Frye is buried in grave number 10 at Rock Island making him one of the first soldiers from the 36th Alabama to have been buried there. (Back to Muster Roll)

Born March 9, 1840, in Monroe County, Arthur Hale was documented in The Roster of Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865 as a member of Company F of the 36th Alabama. Helton, Isaac M. According to his Alabama Confederate Pension application, Isaac M. Helton was born in Monroeville, Alabama, on November 22, 1831. Although no company was listed, Helton stated he enlisted in the 36th Alabama in November, 1861 at Mobile, Alabama. He participated in the battles at Missionary Ridge, Chicamauga (sic), Nashville, and Spanish Fort. He reports having been wounded at Missionary Ridge. Helton was "cut off from my company at close of War and faild (sic) to get Parole." After producing affidavits from fellow company members W. D. Fountain and T. R. Strock, I. M. Helton was granted a pension. Isaac's four brothers also fought for the Confederacy. John Alexander Helton was in Co. H, 5th Ala. Calvary; James Monroe Helton was in Co. H, 2nd Ala. Calvary; Jeremiah Helton was in Co. F, 53rd Ala. Calvary (Partisan Rangers) and William Helton, Jr. was in the Alabama Reserves, Home Guard of Captain S. H. Dailey.

Johnson B. R. Private B. R. Johnson is listed as a member of Company F of the 36th Alabama. He died on Dec. 4, 1864, as a Prisoner of War and is buried in row 17, number1, grave number 551, at the Camp Chase Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.

Seff, Thomas E. The bodies of 887 soldiers who had died in Chattanooga following the battle of Murfreesboro from January 1st through May 31, 1863, were moved from a cemetery close to the Tennessee River, where they had been temporarily interred, to the Confederate Cemetery in 1867. The head of each grave was marked by a board with the name of the soldier, his state and his command, and a number. Col. R.L. Watkins copied the names and prepared a list that was later presented to Confederate Memorial Association March 18, 1876. Smith, Edward Andrew. From the 1907 Confederate Census, Escambia Co., Ala: Brewton, Ala.; born 8 Aug 1845, Chlahoma, Marshal Co., Ala.; Pvt; entered service Spring 1862 at Milton in Capt. J. D. Leigh's Co. 1st Fla. Regt. until transferred to Co. [F} __ 36th Ala. Regt. Wounded and captured near Nashville in Nov or Dec 1864, was prisoner until close of hostilities at Pt. Lookout, Maryland. Snider, Jacob Obanion, listed as Jacob O'Banion or O. J. in his military records, Snider was enlisted at age 22, on 10 April 1862 in Monroeville by Captain DeLoach. He was captured on 25 November 1863 at Missionary Ridge by Major General Thomas and forwarded to Captain S. E. Jones, Provost Marshal at Louisville, Ky, 6 December 1863. Roles of Prisoners of War transferred from Nashville, Tenn., to Louisville, Ky 7 Dec 1863. Snider was forwarded from Louisville, Ky to Rock Island, Ill., 7 Dec 1863, and received at Rock Island, Ill. from Louisville on 9 Dec 1863. He was later transferred from Rock Island to New Orleans for exchange to the Commissioner for Exchange, on 23 May 1865, by order of Major General E. R. S. Canby.
O. J. Snider was wounded at the Battle of Missionary Ridge; in later years he made made himself a cane and used for his battle injury. He was a POW at Rock Island Prison for 18 months before he was "paroled" in New Orleans. Jacob O'Banion Snider was born 14 July 1840, Monroe Co., Ala. and died 5 Sept 1876, Perdue Hill, Monroe Co., Ala. He is buried at Old Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Mexia, Monroe Co., Ala. His father, Jacob Snider Sr., was 65 years old when O. J. was born in 1840 to Jacob Sr. and his mother, Nancy Stewart. Jacob Obanion Snider married Catherine Ann Daniel, daughter of William and Susannah Daniel, on 30 Nov 1859. After his death , his wife filed a Widow's Pension Application which was witnessed by Captain John DeLoach.
