Progenitor of the PEREGOY / PEDIGO Families in the United States

The Immigrant Joseph PEREGOIS [#1] was born in 1665 in probably France. A Chancery Court Record Liber P.L., folio 103 gives a deposition of Joseph Peregoy December 4, 1714. He is age 49 years and says that his father-in-law 22 years ago (alleged) that if Upper Spring Neck was run out it would take in William Williams orchard and kitchen, and that his father-in-law had been one to carry the chain when the surveying was done. This shows Joseph Peregoy born 1665.

He immigrated to Maryland on July 21, 1685 at age 20. [This, according to the List of Immigrants from England to America, by Robert Ghirella, "Joseph PEREGOIS, a frenchman, being of full age, bound to Robert BURMAN for five years in Maryland," came to America July 21, 1685.  The port in Maryland was not identified.]  He was in Baltimore County by 1692 as a taxable in the household of Edward MUMFORD, on the north side of Patapsco Hundred, and owned 100 acres of Burman's Forest. He died on August 9, 1720 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland.

Joseph PEREGOIS Immigrant was married to Sarah MUMFORD (daughter of Edward MUMFORD and Mary Sarah WATKINS) about 1691/92 in Baltimore Co., Maryland.  It is evident that Joseph and Sarah were married 1692 when his father-in-law told Joseph the boundaries of Upper Spring Neck.  Sarah MUMFORD was born in 1672 in Baltimore, Maryland. A Chancery Court Record Liber P.L. Folio 104 gives the deposition of Sarah PEREGOY age 42 years. She states that her father Edward MUMFORD told her 30 years ago about the boundaries of a piece of land 'Spring Neck' he had taken up at the first boundary of William Pearles land, 50 acres. This deposition is dated January 3, 1714, dating Sarah Mumford's birth year as 1672. She died in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland.

Joseph PEREGOIS Immigrant and Sarah MUMFORD had the following children:

1.  Henry PEREGOY (Perigoe) (Pedigo)  [#13] (son of Joseph PEREGOIS and Sarah MUMFORD) was born about 1690 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland. He signed a will on February 11, 1765 in Frederick Co., Maryland. He died between February 11, 1765 and June 4, 1765 in Winchester, Frederick Co, Virginia. His estate was probated on June 4, 1765 in Frederick Co., Maryland. Henry (Perigoe) (Pedigo) PEREGOY was married twice:  1st to Amey GREENE and 2nd to Providence CORBIN.

He was first married to Amy GREENE (daughter of (Robert?) GREENE and (Mary?) (BOARMAN)) on February 16, 1716 in St. Paul's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland.  Amy GREENE was born in 1698 in Baltimore, Maryland. She died at age 46 in 1744 in Baltimore, Maryland.
