Biography of Charles Edward Ensign

CHARLES EDWARD ENSIGN was born 15 April 1869 east of Blue Rapids in Marshall Co. He died 2 May 1943 in Waterville with burial there. Charles was a son of James Francis and Elizabeth (Waters) Ensign and a gson of Ariel and Roxie (Humphrey) Ensign. Charles' father came to KS from Hartford Ct 22 Apr 1857.

Charles married 24 Sep 1890 Lora Griffee, dau of Marshall and Martha Jane (Pedigo) Griffee. She was born in Galesburg IL, died 21 Jan 1950 at Waterville, with burial there.

Charles and Lora's children were born at Blue Rapids: Floy Noleta b 3 Jul 1891, d 15 Nov 1964 Olsburg, m 5 Jun 1912 Ralph Spratt; Marshall b 21 Jan 1895, d 1965 Manhattan, m 14 Feb 1917 Wetmore, Opal Lowry, dau of Henry Lowry; Nellie Elnora b 15 May 1899, d 12 Jun 1943 Barnes, m 31 May 1921 Clarence Bolejack, son of Dee Bolejack; Virgin Clair b 10 Aug 1902, d 11 Aug 1949 Topeka, m 9 Jun 1931 Topeka, Blanche Kaufman; Erma Lora b 4 Oct 1904, m 11 Aug 1929 Whiting, George Blaser, son of Charles Blaser; Winnie Marie b 5 Sep 1909, m 16 Ju_? 1930 John Grob, son of Ulrich Grob.

Charles E. Ensign was a farmer three miles east of Blue Rapids. Theirs was a small frame house which housed the family including the 6 children.
