Dear Jaime Lynn,

It is very nice to hear from you. If we are talking about the same James R. Sutherlan, we would indeed be happy to receive any information that you may want to share. James was a classmate of mine in Officer Candidate School in 1958. We have established a WEB Page in honor of our OCS Class 58B, which is located on the Internet at:

 http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ocs58b/index.htm

our James Sutherlan (in our year book spelled Sutherland) was in the 5th Squadron, you can verify if we are talking about the same person. We were also informed that our James is deceased and we honor him along with all of our 39 deceased classmates at:

My internet connection is currently down and I can not give you the specific URL address, but if you click on the picture (that says visit our Roll of Honor on our opening page you find our James there.

We would certainly appreciate and welcome any information that you want to share... If you provide us with any information we would like approval to post the information and any photos on our Web page.

Warm Regards

Prentis L. Ollis aka Ollie

Aloha and Mahalo for your speedy response. It just so happens that I did see your fantastic web page and it actually brought tears to my eyes knowing something about Dad that I was not aware of. You see, i was born in 1956 so I was way to young to know that my Dad was in the Honor Society (sort to speak). What a rush that was! Unfortunately Dad did pass away after a long painful episode with cancer of the brain. he had quit smoking his 3 packs of Camels 22 years prior and wouldn't you know it -- he gets brain cancer. he is very much missed and I would be happy to share any info on him that you may want. Could you give me a heads up as to what the other officers provided so that I can email you that info.

I really appreciate your efforts to epitomize and immortalize these gallant men of the good 'ole U.S. Air Force and look forward to corresponding with you again soon!

Mahalo!

Jaime Lynn,

Please accept OCS 58B's belated condolences on the death of your father. About 55 of his Classmates will gather at Lackland Air Force Base in October of the year, to remember our fallen Classmates, at the memorial established by and for 58B Classmates. Your Dad will be remembered and in our prayers.

Your father was associated with a group of outstanding ladies and gentlemen. OCS was a very challenging, exciting, and rewarding time for us. Your Dad was a survivor! I think what is said in the dedication of our Web Pages, describes this group of young men and women:

 http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ocs58b/potpourri-2/web_dedication.htm

To get some idea was what other classmates have provided please visit this page and scan the comments:

 http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ocs58b/bios/index.htm

Basically what is being submitted is a history of what happened after leaving OCS, assignments, duties, etc. You may not remember much of the early years, so any thing that you can remember would be just great. I would be happy to post a page titled: "A 58B Daughter Remembers Her Dad", and then you can write what ever. However, you may choose any title that you like.

Jaime Lynn, your father's Classmates really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and we thank you in advance.

Ollie

Aloha Ollis!!

It just so happens that my twin 17 year old daughters are on Kauai with Grammy Ronnie this week - until Friday evening so I am able to stay up late and do some 'homework' and searching on the computer. Ronnie, Veronica, is Dad's third wife. I did email her and forwarded this information to her as well -- I know that it will warm her heart as much -- if not more than it did mine! I do hope you do not mind that I copy her on all our emails. She is truly an angel sent from God -- she is a nurse practitioner and nursed my father at home until his last breath. [email protected] My Mom, Patricia Linda Christian Sutherlan died in 1965 in a car accident. It was a very devastating time for me as I was the oldest girl at 9 years old and have never really found a way to grieve for her either! So as you can imagine
Dad's death really threw me for a loop. I actually can say that I had a complete nervous - exhaustion breakdown that has lasted now for almost three years. This situation with my corresponding with you is certainly a healing experience and I thank you for giving back some of Dad that I could not accept losing so soon! I will do as you have instructed and check out that website and get back to you with all the particulars. I would be honored if
you would set up a special screen for daughter remembers. It will allow me to be even closer to Dad then I really have ever been.

I will be in touch -- oh by the way, where do u live?

Mahalo for all your kokua (help)!

Aloha Officer Ollis!

I can hardly believe it is 4 a.m. here in Honolulu and after skimming the officers bios I am wide awake with excitement and motivation to compile one for Dad. I cannot tell you enough what this means to mean and I am sure to my older brother Steve ([email protected]), which I have added as a cc. I hope you do not mind that I have included them in what I call phenomenon! For so long my past was shadowed and now finally I am able to somewhat relive what my Dad lived and died for. I am so impressed with the stories and the types of 'missions' involved with these dedicated officers. I had NO idea
that Dad was so interesting and the importance of his commands for our country -- it makes me want to drive to his gravesite right now and salute like the guys at the gate did when we would drive up to the entry gates to go into the many bases where he was stationed. Now I can totally appreciate why those guys would stand so gallant and not move until our car was out of sight!

I will start compiling info and relay this to you as soon as possible! Along with kokua (help) from my family I am sure Dad will be looking over that puffy cloud up in heaven so that those gold bars will be so bright it will practically blind us!

Mahalo again and I will be in touch!

Jaime Lynn

Aloha Ollie!
It has been quite a long time since we emailed!  I have somewhat fully recovered from the car accident that occurred last year, where by this young man fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into my parked 2-door Toyota Corolla Sedan while I was getting out of the back seat with his Toyota  Dakota truck.  I have been going to physical therapy for over a year and have finally gotten semi-control of my wrists in order to type.

I have some photo
s that I came across in old photo albums that my step mother gave me after Dad's funeral and I have attached them.  I had started a draft last year when we started emailing each other and unfortunately my computer crashed early this year and nothing on the hard drive could be salvaged.  And, of course, as fate would have it I did NOT print a hard copy - so it's back to the drawing board.  I will email over bits and pieces as i put them together so that at least Dad will have info on the OCS 58B web page.

I hope all is well with you and yours and I will be in touch soon.  Oh, by the way, my email also changed from [email protected] to: [email protected].

Mahalo and Ahu Hou (Thanks - Until we 'meet' again)

Jaime Lynn
