Editor's Note:

I'm excited to announce the formation of the Philbrick & Philbrook Family Association of Canada. Dr. Frank A. Philbrook of Oakville, Ontario, Canada is leading the project. Though still in the early stages, we are very excited about this wonderful addition to the Family Association. We look forward to encouraging our other International cousins to form their own chapters in their home countries. Find out more about this project in next month's newsletter.

JABEZ D. PHILBRICK7 (Edward, Benjamin, Ephraim, Joseph, James, Thomas the Emigrant) was born Feb. 13, 1807 in Concord, N.H. He married Elizabeth H. (?) who was born Mar. 29, 1809 and died on Mar. 18, 1884. They had four children, Charles H., Abbie R., Edward W. and Edwin R. (twins.)

His obituary reads, "The death of Col. J.D. Philbrick, whose birthplace was Concord, NH, 87 years and 17 days ago, occurred March 2, 1894 at the home of his adopted daughter, Mrs. E.S. Bates, in Prairie City, ILL., and his body was brought to Griggsville, where he had mostly resided since 1839, and on March 5 buried there. For many years he was a prominent citizen of that city, highly esteemed and respected by all."

Charles H. was the only child to make it to adulthood. Abbie, Edward & Edwin died very young. Charles preceded his father in death on Oct. 17, 1885. Charles was a personal secretary to President Abraham Lincoln. Next month's newsletter will have more information on Charles Philbrick and his connection to Abraham Lincoln.
