He served in the Civil War between 24 September 1862 and 17 October 1865 .¹⁹¹¹ He lived at Waukon, Iowa and enlisted at age 28 as 2nd Corp. Serg't., Co F, 6th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He mustered out at Sioux City, Iowa with an honorable discharge.

He was living on 14 October 1903 in Iroquois, Kingsbury, South Dakota.¹⁹¹¹ [age 72, likely wrong]

He died about January 1904 at the age of 70 in Iroquois, Kingsbury, South Dakota.¹⁹¹¹ The pension records state that he was dropped from the pension roll Jan. 1904 due to death, but date of death is not noted. Moses was buried at De Smet Cemetery in De Smet, Kingsbury, South Dakota.¹⁹¹³
