A SAD CASE

There died in this city May 5, Mrs. Ned Fillbrick. The case is a very sad one. The woman's husband, a very worthless man, a cigarmaker by trade, deserted her and his four little children some time in April last. He left her without any means whatever. Kind hearted cigarmakers made up a little money among themselves for her and the little ones, hoping that in the mean time she might hear from him. But no word came, and the poor woman, broken hearted, took sick May 4 and died May 5. Her four little ones are left without father or mother. Mrs. Fillbrick was only twenty three years of age. She was a good and patient woman and a kind and loving mother. She was buried at Forest Lawn this afternoon. She resided on Cuming Street, one door west of Sixteenth.

It is charged that Oith Physician Ralph refused to render medical aid for the child when called upon by the police.

A DESERTED WIFE SUICIDES

Mrs. Edwin Phillbrick Ends Her Life With Poison

News reached the police station at an early hour this morning that Mrs. Edwin E. Philbrick had committed suicide at her home, 1607 Cuming street. The deed was committed Saturday afternoon, but no word was sent to the authorities at the time. The body was found by her sister, Saturday, alone in the house with her four children, the oldest aged seven years. The children had been too frightened to let the neighbors know that their mother was dead. The woman had evidently taken poison on account of being deserted by her husband, a cigarmaker, who left her three weeks ago, going to Chicago. The coroner has been notified and will investigate the case.

A MYSTERIOUS SUICIDE

Mrs. Philbert Takes Poison and Ends Her Existence

About 1 o'clock this morning a report reached the central station that Mrs. Philbert, who resides at Sixteenth and Cuming streets, had committed suicide by taking poison.

Considerable mystery surrounds the affair. Mr. Philbert died Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and the report that she had committed suicide was not circulated until early this morning. The cause of the deed is supposed to have been family troubles. Mrs. Philbert's husband, who is a cigarmaker, deserted his wife and four small children some time ago and went to Chicago. The family has been in destitute circumstances and it is supposed that the woman, having no means of support, took poison rather than prolong struggle for existence. This is said to be the second time that Philbert has deserted his family, and that he has never provided sufficient means for their support. The coroner was notified and will hold an inquest on the remains at once.

Mr. Philbrick's Death

The Rumor That She Took Poison Without Foundation

Later developments prove that the rumor that Mrs. Philbrick, who resided a the corner of Sixteenth and Cuming Streets, had committed suicide by taking poison, was wholly without foundation, and was probably started by some very excitable person. The woman's husband deserted her about two weeks ago, leaving her in destitute circumstances, and it is said by some that she died of a broken heart. The certificate of the attending physician, however, states that congestive chills were the cause of her death. She was buried at the expense of the county yesterday afternoon, and her four small children are being cared for at the Home for the Friendless on Burt street.
