Kent, 92, of Elco, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Dunlevy Gardens Personal Care Community. A son of the late Samuel H. and Grace L. Smith Kent, he was born January 1, 1919, in Elco. During World War II, Mr. Kent served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Armored Division where he attained the rank of Corporal. He worked as a coal miner at the Banning mine before retiring after 32 years of employment. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, going fishing, and spending time with his family. Mr. Kent was a member of American Legion Post 801 in Roscoe, VFW Arden Calvert Post 167 in Charleroi, and Monongahela Valley Lodge # 461 of the Free and Accepted Masons in California, PA. He is survived by his wife, Leota Taylor Gregg Kent; a daughter, Paula Huhn and husband, Bob, of Elco; a son, Larry Kent and wife, Sandy, of Vanderbilt; a stepson, Allen Paul Gregg and wife Becky, of Satellite Beach, Fla; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Woodburn and husband, Dave, Allyson Crouse and husband Billy, Heather Serock and husband Dave, and Bruce, Chris, Jeff, and Kayla Gregg; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Olive Jefferies, of Roscoe; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Roberson Kent in 1976; a brother, Samuel Harry Kent, Jr.; and sisters, Garnett Parkins and Helen Dulack. Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc, 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Watts presiding. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, where full military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 801. On Friday, services will be conducted in the funeral home by American Legion Post 801at 7 p.m. and F&AM Lodge #461 at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mr. Kents name be made to Viaquest Hospice, 612 Park Avenue, Monongahela, PA 15063-181.
