WATERVILLE -- Edwin Vaughn Philbrick, 79, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, surrounded by his loving, caring family: his wife, Pauline; daughter Doreen and companion Stacia Hall, who was also a daughter to him; special daughter-in-law Elizabeth Wilson, who was like a daughter to him; and grandson Timothy MacArthur.

Edwin, known to family and friends as Vaughn, was born on July 13, 1933, the son of Ralph and Gwendolyn Philbrick.

He graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield in 1953 and has remained friends with many of his classmates. He served two years in the Army, with time spent in Germany. He married the love of his life, Pauline Hoskins, on April 22, 1956.

He was employed by Houle's Plumbing and Heating in Waterville for 25 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the violin. In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family.

He was surprised with a special visit from his grandson Ralph G. Philbrick II, who came from Ocala, Fla., during his final days to see him. He belonged to the Grange in St. Albans. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Philbrick, of Waterville; a very special daughter, Doreen MacArthur, and her companion, Stacia Hall, of Winslow; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Wilson, of Waterville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Harold Hoskins, of Waterville; his aunt, Cora; several nieces and nephews; special cousin Elaine Crocker; special friend Kathy Phelps; and son Ralph Philbrick, of Bangor.

He was predeceased by his parents.

The family would like to say special thanks to those who took care of Edwin during his illness: Pauline, Doreen, Stacia, Elizabeth, Timothy and Ralph II.

The family also expresses heartfelt gratitude to Beacon Hospice for its care and compassion.

Receiving of friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at First Congregational Church, 132 Somerset Ave., in Pittsfield.

A gathering will follow in the fellowship hall. A committal with full military honors will take place in the spring at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield.
