Virgil Vernon Dean, 79, of Langley, Oklahoma, formerly of Cassville, Missouri was called to heaven at 12:15 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas following an illness. Virgil began his journey on July 7, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma one of seven children born to the late Charles Everett and Sarah Olive (Handy) Dean. He was raised in West Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Webster High School. Virgil enlisted into the United States Navy when he was only 17 years old and proudly served his country during World War II. Virgil married Norma Lucille Robbins on December 24, 1946 at Tulsa, Oklahoma and to this union two children were born. Norma preceded Virgil in death on July 30, 1996. Virgil married Barbara Frye on April 3, 2004 at the Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri. He was the owner of the Seven Valley's Motel in Cassville, Missouri. Virgil had an incredible thirst for knowledge and learning new things. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Disney, Oklahoma. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Norma Lucille Dean; three brothers; three sisters; and a step-son ~ Lloyd T. Frye. She had co-owned service stations, a cleaning business, a motel and a cave. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Washburn. She married Virgil V. Dean on Dec. 24, 1946. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Paul Dean, Tulsa; a daughter, Fay Havlick, Chicago, Ill.; her mother, Grace Robbins, Tulsa; three sisters, Marie Sullivan, Boulder City, Nev., Betty Hargrove, Fort Smith, Ark., and JoAnn Thompson, Tulsa; a brother, Jerry Burkhart, Tulsa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Washburn. The Rev. Aaron Nowland, the Rev. Tom Casady, the Rev. Sam Mitchell, the Rev. Wayne Wall and the Rev. Vance Wiley will officiate. Burial will be in Washburn Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Varner, Brian Rose, Scot Knowlles, Lee Stubblefield, Clarence Frye and Keith Frye. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
