Virgil Vernon Dean, 79, of Langley, Oklahoma, formerly of Cassville, Missouri was called to heaven at 12:15 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas following an illness.

Virgil began his journey on July 7, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma one of seven children born to the late Charles Everett and Sarah Olive (Handy) Dean. He was raised in West Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Webster High School. Virgil enlisted into the United States Navy when he was only 17 years old and proudly served his country during World War II. Virgil married Norma Lucille Robbins on December 24, 1946 at Tulsa, Oklahoma and to this union two children were born. Norma preceded Virgil in death on July 30, 1996. Virgil married Barbara Frye on April 3, 2004 at the Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri. He was the owner of the Seven Valley's Motel in Cassville, Missouri. Virgil had an incredible thirst for knowledge and learning new things. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Disney, Oklahoma.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Norma Lucille Dean; three brothers; three sisters; and a step-son ~ Lloyd T. Frye.

Surviving family include: his loving wife, Barbara Blanche Dean of the home; a son, Paul Edward Dean and wife Tracy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Fay Marie Havlick and husband Max of Villa Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Sandra Fay Kimball and husband Gene of Kellyville, Oklahoma, Christopher Allen Thomas and wife, Robin of Kellyville, Oklahoma, Roy Dean Thomas and wife, Katie of Kellyville, Oklahoma, Michael Sean Dean Sr. and wife Kimberly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Charles Aaron Dean of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Matthew Vernon Dean and wife, Monica of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mark Bedell Dean of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Gale Gardner and husband, John of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 14 great grandchildren, Michael Sean Dean, Jr., Michelle Dean, Bryan Thomas and wife, Brittney, Steven Kimball, Allie Kimball, Austin Thomas, Spencer Thomas, Coleman Thomas, Diana Thomas, Skyler Dean, Emily Dean, John Gardner, Jr., Noah Gardner and Alexis Gardner; two stepsons, Clarence L. Frye of Purdy, Missouri, Keith A. Frye of Lanagan, Missouri; a step daughter, Elisa Bridgeman and husband Dean of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four step grandchildren, Stephanie Zinn and husband, Austin of Lanagan, Missouri, Traci Launius and husband, Kenny of Stella, Missouri, Faith Bridgeman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Karen Bridgeman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three step great grandchildren; along with many friends, neighbors and other relatives who will deeply miss Virgil.

CASSVILLE, Mo. … Norma L. Dean, 67, Cassville route 1, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at Bates Medical Center, Bentonville, Ark., after a long illness. Mrs. Dean was born Jan. 30, 1929, at Red Fork, Okla. She had lived 16 years in Barry and McDonald counties, moving from Tulsa, Okla. She had co-owned service stations, a cleaning business, a motel and a cave. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Washburn. She married Virgil V. Dean on Dec. 24, 1946. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Paul Dean, Tulsa; a daughter, Fay Havlick, Chicago, Ill.; her mother, Grace Robbins, Tulsa; three sisters, Marie Sullivan, Boulder City, Nev., Betty Hargrove, Fort Smith, Ark., and JoAnn Thompson, Tulsa; a brother, Jerry Burkhart, Tulsa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Washburn. The Rev. Aaron Nowland, the Rev. Tom Casady, the Rev. Sam Mitchell, the Rev. Wayne Wall and the Rev. Vance Wiley will officiate. Burial will be in Washburn Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Varner, Brian Rose, Scot Knowlles, Lee Stubblefield, Clarence Frye and Keith Frye. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. She was buried at Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn, Barry, Missouri.³⁶⁵²
