The family was in the grocery business, owning and operating Union Safeway, which closed their doors in 1976, after 47 years. Monroe married Shirley Nelson in 1948, and they had 45 years together. Monroe is survived by his children, John Carmody and wife, Linda of Seattle, his two granddaughters, Tanya and Heather Carmody and great-grandson, Dillon; daughter, Sharon Johnson and husband, Ron of Sun City, AZ, his three grandchildren, Kelly Campbell, Robin Stoeck and Paul Campbell, and five great-grandchildren; daughter, Sandra Miller and husband, Charles of Scottsdale, AZ, his three granddaughters, Suzanne Otto, Kris Sarrao and Lisa Francis, and four great-grandchildren. Monroe is also survived by his beloved sister, Dorothy Webb of Malaga, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and two brothers, Kenneth and Sterling Carmody. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home, 302 Ninth Street, Wenatchee.
