James E. Burch, 80, Pleasanton, died Monday, April 9, 2006, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born July 23, 1925, in Luther, Okla., the son of Roscoe and Iola Wagarman Burch.

Mr. Burch was a carman for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad from 1968 until 1985 when he retired.

He and Louise Marguerette Mitchell were married Feb. 4, 1971, in Kansas City, Kan. He lived in Edgerton from 1971 until 2002.

Mr. Burch was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was known as an avid fisherman.

Those preceding him in death were two sons, Gary Burch and Eugene Burch; a brother, Oris Burch; and a sister, Verda Mae.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; his children, Ronnie Burch of Shawnee, Fay Riek of Warsaw, Mo., Donald Burch and Patricia Spaits, both of Shawnee, James Burch of Kansas City, Mo., Linda Kay Stone of Baldwin City, Carrie Brown of Wildormar, Calif., Janet Howell of Vassar, Kan., Carline Pulver of Hillsdale, Jeanette Wheeler of Edgerton, Deborah Graves of Wichita, Cindy Phillips and Toni Misner, both of Goose Creek, S.C.; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were April 13 in the Edgerton Cemetery with military honors.
