Vern Simning was born April l7, 1921 in Wabasso, the son of Robert and Virginia (Varco) Simning. He grew up in Wabasso and attended Wabasso Schools. On June 3, 1940, Vern married Sylvia Smart in Redwood Falls. In 1948, they moved to Montana and from 1950 until 1951 they lived in DeSmet, S.D. They then moved to Morton for a short time before moving to the Cities. Vern was a boiler operator for Gordon Rendering in New Brighton for a number of years and retired from there. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. After his retirement, he loved to scrap metal and was nicknamed "the scrapper." The last couple of years, Vern enjoyed going to the casino with friends Bill and John from Margaret Place. Vern is survived by his children Lorraine Simning of Circle Pines, Vern Simning and wife Karen of Minneapolis, Carol Cherry of Rochester, Sylvia Koskle, Keith Simning and wife Lisa of Isanti, Karen McFadzen and husband David of Andover, and Connie Simning and Glen Platt of Circle Pines. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Edith Prodoehl and husband Alver of Renville, and Beulah Lothert and husband Harold of Morton. Vern was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia; a son Kenneth; brothers and sisters Bob, Bud, Ginger, Roy, Dolly, Bertha, Ellen, and Deloris; and half-brothers Joe and Jim. Vern R.
