Happy Birthday to our beloved wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandma and friend! Her obituary was published on 13 July 2011 in the Grant County Herald in Elbow Lake, Grant, Minnesota. Dianne Pikop Aske, age 70, formerly of Elbow Lake, died on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at her home in Titusville, Florida, with her husband and children at her side. A Grant County memorial service will take place on Friday, July 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. A Florida memorial service was held on February 24 at the Great Outdoors Church in Titusville. Dianne was born on March 22, 1940, to Iner and Joyce (Pattison) Pikop in their home, on the farm just south of Elbow Lake. When growing up, Dianne was a good student, enjoyed playing in the band, singing in the choir, and walking down to eat BBQ sandwiches at the local diner on main street instead of school lunch. She had many good friends and she was close to her extended family of Pikops and Pattisons. She graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1958 and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Sanford, also of Elbow Lake. Their son Greg was born in Fergus Falls in 1961 and daughter Michelle in Minneapolis in 1966. In 1970, Dianne and Richard divorced and she went back to college in the Twin Cities, where she graduated from the University of Minnesota. In 1973, she married Eugene Aske and they and Dianne's children moved to south Florida. Dianne devotedly spent her career in education, beginning in the elementary classroom and proceeding to being principal of schools in Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Along the way she earned her Master's Degree. After spending 25 years in education and administration, Dianne retired in 2000 with Gene to Titusville, Florida and lived happily at The Great Outdoors community for 11 years. She was very active in her community and church throughout her time there and was loved by everyone who knew her. Dianne had a love of food: shopping for it, cooking it, and eating it. If she had the television on, it was tuned in to the Cooking Channel. She was well-known among her friends and family as a great cook (and a good eater). She was also so thoughtful to consistently send cards and letters to her loved ones on birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and for special events. Her kids and grandkids all looked forward to receiving a cute Valentine's Day card with a $5 bill in it every February 14. In fact, in her last few days of life, after waking from a 3-day coma, she insisted on getting Valentine's sent to each of her children, their partners, and grandchildren even though she had "slept" through February 14. Just after she passed away, we were all so moved to receive a Valentine from her with her very last, precious bits of handwriting and expressions of her love. Dianne was passionate about education, food, family, and spreading God's love wherever she went. She was a humble leader and a generous Christian. She was known for the bright twinkle in her eye and her positive attitude, even throughout her long health battles. When in a group among her friends, they would often ask her to say the prayer before a meal or event. Dianne lived with colitis, colon cancer, and, for the last several decades of her life, liver disease. She died at home in peace. She made it to heaven just in time for her 71st birthday on March 22. Dianne is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Gene Aske of Titusville, FL; son, Greg (Lily) Sanford of Parker, CO, and their son Jackson; daughter, Michelle (Rita) Sanford of Chicago, IL; stepchildren, Debra, Kurt (Haddie), and Karl (Jeanne) Aske, all of Brainerd, MN; step-grandsons, Bill, Phillip, and Kyle Aske; and one great grandson, Tyler Aske. Dianne is also survived by her siblings; sister, Ina Jean (Jerome) Ricks of Alexandria; brothers, Dwaine (Bonnie) of Elbow Lake and Doug (Paulette) Pikop of Bellevue, NE; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Dianne is preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Iner Pikop; her in-laws, Bill and Lois Aske; and her niece, Kathryn Ricks White. We are so proud of Dianne and blessed to call her family and friend. We will forever miss our beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend! We love you, Dianne!
