WINTHROP - Elwood G. Raymond, 92, a lifelong resident of Winthrop, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born in Winthrop on Dec. 11, 1917, the son of James and Nellie (Remmick) Raymond. Elwood was a World War II disabled American veteran, a former member of the Lions Club and a volunteer fireman for the town of Winthrop. For many years, he was employed by the town of Winthrop as the road foreman. He also worked at Inmont, and Bancroft & Martin in Leeds. Elwood was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ina (Ames) Raymond, who died Jan. 31, 2000. He is survived by a son, Stephen Raymond and his wife, Pamela Murphy, of Red Bank, N.J.; a daughter, Peggy Brann and her husband, Gene, of Winthrop; grandson Kyle Brann and his wife, Candice, of Winthrop; his sister, Gladys Gasper, of Monmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews. A committal service with military honors will be held in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Elwood G.
