WINTHROP - Elwood G. Raymond, 92, a lifelong resident of Winthrop, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born in Winthrop on Dec. 11, 1917, the son of James and Nellie (Remmick) Raymond.

Elwood was a World War II disabled American veteran, a former member of the Lions Club and a volunteer fireman for the town of Winthrop. For many years, he was employed by the town of Winthrop as the road foreman. He also worked at Inmont, and Bancroft & Martin in Leeds.

Elwood was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ina (Ames) Raymond, who died Jan. 31, 2000.

He is survived by a son, Stephen Raymond and his wife, Pamela Murphy, of Red Bank, N.J.; a daughter, Peggy Brann and her husband, Gene, of Winthrop; grandson Kyle Brann and his wife, Candice, of Winthrop; his sister, Gladys Gasper, of Monmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A committal service with military honors will be held in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

Elwood G. RAYMOND and Ina Frances AMES were married on 17 August 1941 in Maine.455

Ina Frances AMES455, daughter of Fred Merton AMES and Grace Angeline GILCOTT, was born on 10 December 1920 in Vassalboro, Kennebec, Maine.455
