Mary Ann Philbrook 84 of Main Street, Fultonville, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning at home. Born in Troy, NY on October 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Angeline Criscone Valenty. Raised in Green Island, she was a graduate of Heatly High School and later business school. Mary worked as a secretary for RPI in Troy for a time. Following her marriage she moved to Fultonville where she has resided the past sixty years. She assisted her husband in the operation of the former Philbrook's Market, an institution in Fultonville for a number of years. She was an active parishioner of St. Cecilia's R.C. Church and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters Of The Americas. Mary belonged to the Glen Mohawk Seniors and the Turtle Club. She loved playing golf and traveling, but she was most happy when surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. On Sept. 30, 1951 she was united in marriage to Harold L. Philbrook. He predeceased her on Feb. 5, 1995. She's survived by her five children: Roy Philbrook of Fultonville, Julia Philbrook and her husband Michael Mulvey of Portland, OR, Marie Stahler and her husband Gary of Canajoharie, Harold J. Philbrook II of Westborough, MA, and Mary Lou Kearns and her husband Tom of Concord, MA. Mary was the loving grandmother of Payton and Mackenzie Stahler, Angela, Thomas and Ryan Kearns, Mary Alice and Matthew Mulvey, and Harrison, Patrick and Andrew Philbrook. She is also survived by three of her four brothers: Albert Valenty and his wife Elaine of Cohoes, Anthony Valenty of Scaramento, CA and John Valenty and his wife Carol of Florida; two sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen Valenty of Bolton Landing and JoAnn Myers of Auriesville. She was predeceased in death by her brother Michael Valenty. Mary also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins. Her best friends were Irene Kearns and the late Phyllis Fox. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10 am at St. Cecilia's Church, Broadway, Fonda. Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv., celebrant. Interment is in Maple Avenue Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville, where the Glen Mohawk Seniors will meet at 4:30pm.
