He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Rangeley, the son of Clarence D. and Maud M. Gile. He was a graduate of Rangeley High School and married Ethel M. Ross on Feb. 1, 1950.
Lynwood worked for D.C. Morton for many years before going to work for Glen Martin Aircraft shipyard in South Portland in 1957. He also worked for Pratt and Whitney in Sanford, Precision Metal Products of Saugus, Mass., and the Bud Russell Kennebago Lake Camps driving the mail truck and mail boat up and down Kennebago Lake delivering mail to Grants Camps and Kennebago Camps for the U.S. Post Office.
Lynwood also guided trips down "the Allagash" and guided parties for Kennebago Camps on the Big Lake (Mooselook). He also worked for 25 years for Forster Manufacturing Co., first in Stratton, then East Wilton, and ending up in Strong, before he retired in 1993.
Lynwood was a member of the Rangeley Free Baptist Church. He enjoyed life; his manner and energy were infectious. Having done and experienced so many things, he loved to tell stories, even if they were the same ones over and over; they still made you laugh. He enjoyed gardening, had a crafty nature, and could fix anything with his hands.
Lynwood is survived by three nieces, Dianna Carlson, Linda VanCuran and Sandra Ellington; two nephews, Fred Carver and Jeffrey Wilkerson; and his old chum "Bomb" Marie Savage.
He was predeceased by his wife; two sisters, Elvenus Carver and Merlene Wilkersen; and his brother; Wilfred Gile. Lynwood D. GILE and Ethelyn M.
