Mahoney passed away peacefully on May 26, 2010, in her home surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. Edith was the daughter of Arthur and Bernice (Moore) Philbrook, of Appleton. Edith graduated from Erskine Academy in 1959. She worked for the state of Maine, Department of Taxation, for 32 years. Edward "Mickey" and Edith were married in March 1959. Together they raised their family in Chelsea, enjoying outdoor activities and camping. Edith was a doting mother and grandmother. She loved all sports, especially if her boys or grandchildren were involved. Edith also had a special passion for horse racing. Edith was predeceased by her parents; her infant son, Edward; her infant daughter, Marie; five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edward "Mickey" Mahoney Jr.; two sons, Michael and his wife, Diane, of Whitefield, and Mickey and his fiancée, Jen Newhouse, of Farmingdale; two granddaughters, Megan and Chiara; three sisters, Geneva Kinney, of Warren, Christine Robbins and her husband, Neal, of Appleton, and Gladys Dyer, of Waldoboro; brother-in-law John Mahoney and his wife, Elaine, of Chelsea; sister-in-law Louise Mahoney, of Chelsea; and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. Edith's wishes are for a family-burial-site ceremony. A very special thank-you to all the many family and friends who assisted Edith, especially HealthReach HomeCare and Hospice of Waterville, and Dr. Ramon Chelluitte.
