BELMONT (May 10): Alva Edison Philbrook Jr., 68, of Belmont, passed away May 9, 2005, at his residence. He was born Nov. 20, 1936 in Belfast, the son of Alva Sr. and Margaret (Walton) Philbrook. Alva was a loving father and grandfather, who was a giving man that always helped others. He was predeceased by two sons, Paul and Alva; brother, James and sister Evelyn Ryder. Alva is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lindola (Merrifield) Philbrook; nine children; Roxanne Copeland and husband Ronald, Sonja Abbott, Jeffrey Philbrook and wife Abby, Kurt Philbrook and wife Karen, Alva Philbrook III and wife Kristi, Ruth and husband Bob Yeaton, Edward Philbrook, Dora Philbrook, Matthew Philbrook and wife Rachel; 17 grandchildren, Sarah and Cody Copeland, Terri Bubar, Kati Abbott, Michael Abbott, Brian, Amber, Stephen, and Benjamin Philbrook, Shelby, Jacob, Isaic and Noah Philbrook, Ashley and Chrystal Yeaton, Makayla and Makenzie Philbrook; four great-grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Kaelyn, Dylan and one expected in a month; brothers, Edward Philbrook, Richard Philbrook, David Philbrook and Carl Philbrook; and sisters, Loretta Beck, Susan Sutherland and Rebecca Martineau. Alva is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and a special friend, Esther Wadsworth. Friends called Wednesday, May 11 at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast. A funeral service was held Thursday, May 12 at the Faith Temple Church of God Lincolnville Ave. Belfast, with Rev. Alward officiating.
