Her maiden name is unknown but possible clues may lie in her daughters middle names, Trescott and Gardner. Also to be considered is the name of her great grandson, Alfred Gardiner Holden. Gardner and Gardiner are variants of the family of that name in Rhode Island. While there are numerous sources naming Alfred Gardiner Holden, the middle name of Susan Gardner Burlingame is given only on her death record. It's possible that is a misspelling and that her name is Susan Gardiner (Burlingame) Holden.

It is presumed that her husband Thomas was dead but there is no evidence of that. Name on census: Mary Burlingame.
Mary appeared in the census on 14 June 1860 in Johnston, Providence, Rhode Island.493 Age 76, born Rhode Island. She was living with daughter Ann and son-in-law John Williams. Name on census: Mary Burlingame.

She appeared in the census on 13 July 1870 in Cranston, Providence, Rhode Island.493 Age 52, born Rhode Island. She was a dressmaker and was living with her sister Ann and her husband John Williams. Name on census: Caroline Burlingame.

She was never married.660 [as far as is known.]

She was a Weaver in 1832 & 1850, and a Dressmaker in 1870. She lived with Christopher & Susan in 1850; John & Ann in 1870; and Christopher & Susan in 1884. She wasn't found on the 1860 census.

Caroline died on 26 May 1884 at the age of 66 in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island.408
