Leonard E. “Lenny” Philbrick, 72, of Pelham, died Friday evening, Aug. 4, 2006, at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Philbrick was born July 11, 1934, in Lowell, Mass., son of the late W. Edward and Emily M. (Davis) Philbrick.

He was the husband of Beverly “Penny” (Bastow) Philbrick, with whom he celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in March.

Mr. Philbrick was the owner of Pelham Machine and Tool Co. for many years. In addition, he was a machinist with the Boston and Maine Railroad at the North Billerica Car Shops for more than 10 years.

During the late 1960s and early ’70s, he served two terms on the Salem Board of Selectman. He was a member of the Derry/Salem Lodge of Elks and a charter member of the Pelham Lions Club.

In 1984, Mr. Philbrick earned his private pilot license and flew his own plane.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He served as a first class machinist mate aboard the USS Shenandoah. He held membership in American Legion Post 100 in Pelham.

Mr. Philbrick attended the Parker Avenue School in Dracut, Mass., and was a graduate of Dracut High School.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Leonard E. Philbrick Jr.; and a brother, Wallace R. Philbrick.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Robert Thomsen of Raymond, Karen and Michael Dexter of Pelham, and Jill and Rigoberto Diaz of Hudson; a stepson, Mark Preston of Londonderry; two stepdaughters, Wendy Preston and her partner, Henry Ladner, of Litchfield, and Susan Preston of Litchfield; a sister, Susan Taylor and her partner, David Gram, of Dracut, Mass.; four grandsons, James Nesky and his wife, Marta, of Kingston, Aaron Nesky of Raymond, William Robinson and his wife, Amanda, of Newport, R.I., and Jason Philbrick of New Hampshire; a granddaughter, Melissa Philbrick of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.

The Pelham Funeral Home in Pelham is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Margaret RICHARDSON, daughter of Jesse Pearl RICHARDSON and Lucy Menerva DEMMONS, was born on 28 April 1938 in Massachusetts.321 She died on 19 May 1979 at the age of 41 in Nashua, Hillsborough, New Hampshire.321
