BELFAST (Sep 1): Elmer L. "Buster" Philbrook, 94, of Belfast, died Aug. 29, 2008, of natural causes, at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. He was born Feb. 28, 1913.

Buster was a decorated World War II veteran, receiving three Bronze Stars. He was retired from Carpenters Local 1996 and had worked as a longshoreman, logger, mason and carpenter. Buster enjoyed restoring old boats and watching boxing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mildred Philbrook; and several brothers and sisters.

Buster is survived by his children, Buster Clark and his wife, Shirley, of Monroe; Elmaleen Roberts and her husband, John, of Colton, Calif., Wayne Philbrook and wife, Diane, of Florida and Randy Philbrook and wife, Yvonne, of Livermore, Calif.; sisters, Nettie Waterman of Yarmouth, Amber Fuller and husband, Manly, of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

At Elmer's request there will be no services. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.

He was buried at Grove Cemetery in Belfast, Waldo, Maine.³⁵¹⁰

Mildred F. SPEAR/WINSLOW died before August 2008.³⁵¹⁰

Mildred's maiden name is uncertain because there are two marriage records recorded in the Maine Archives for her marriage to Elmer, both on the same date. One has her last name as SPEAR, and the other as WINSLOW. One is presumably a maiden name and the other a married name. More research is needed.
