NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Raymond A. Philbrick Jr., 80, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
Born April 28, 1924, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Raymond A. Philbrick Sr. and Carrie (Little) Philbrick. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and the Pacific. His mother Carrie also enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the age of 43. Their names are engraved at the Veterans Memorial Park in Salem, N.H.

Ray was a third class stationary engineer for Lawrence General Hospital before retiring in 1985. He came to the North Port area in 1987 from Salem. Ray loved flying and had his private pilot's license since the late 1940s. He was also a certified ultralight flight instructor. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the U.S. Ultralight Association, the Aero Sports Connection and the American Modelers Association.

Ray will be greatly missed by his wife of 43 years Gloria. He also leaves sister Adele (Strobel) Jezierski as well as children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and a memorial service in celebration of Ray's life was conducted on Saturday, June 19, 2004. Arrangements were made by the Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte.
