TUCKER, Mrs. V. Annette "Nicky" Mrs. V. Annette "Nicky" Tucker, 93, died on October 15, 2008, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT, of complications following a stroke. She was visiting family in Brookfield, VT, from her home in Hampton, VA. Born Vera Annette Philbrick on July 29, 1915 in Bridgeport, CT, and raised in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of Halsey Raymond and Vera Douglas (Booth) Philbrick. She attended Oxford Country Day in Hartford, CT, graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, NY in 1933, and received a degree in landscape architecture from Smith College in 1937. Last year she attended her 70th college reunion. She was a member of the Junior League, maintaining an active membership throughout the many cities in which she resided: Hartford, CT; Charlottesville, VA; Clearwater/Belleair, FL; New Orleans, LA; and Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. She gave of her time and energy in volunteer activities starting with the Children's Museum of Hartford which began in a small room at the Elizabeth Park Pond House which was located across Asylum Avenue from her home. The museum has since evolved into the Science Center of Connecticut. She transcribed a book a year for several years into Braille for the Hadley School for the Blind in Winnetka, IL. Additionally, she served as a volunteer at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Point and Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. During the 1950's, she and her sister owned and ran the original Sandy Bookstore in Clearwater. Upon her return to Clearwater in the late 1960's, she became involved with the development of the Cottingham School and served as an assistant principal for two years. Following that, she began a successful and rewarding 25 year career as a real estate agent for Belleair Realty. She played a great hand of bridge, enjoyed the theater and the symphony, and traveled extensively. Needlepoint and playing the piano were other passions, and she was an avid tennis player and fan throughout her adult life. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David N. Carvalho of Hartford, CT, with whom she had three children; her second husband, Stanley R. Tucker of Baltimore, MD; and her sister Constance Van Brunt of Clearwater, FL. She is survived by her son David N. Tucker and wife Cornelia of Green Brook, NJ and their children: Alan and Cornelia (Tucker) Mazzan and daughter Anabel of Fairhaven, NJ; Annette Tucker and sons Bennett and Colin Wacaster and daughter Cornelia Wacaster of Berkley Heights, NJ; Michael and Rebecca (Tucker) Pruskowski and daughter Ella of Morristown, NJ; Fernando and Suzanne (Tucker) del Valle and daughters Carolina and Evangeline of Corning, NY; David N. Tucker, Jr. of Green Brook, NJ; and Mary Catherine Tucker of Morristown, NJ. Also by her daughter Constance and husband George Karalekas of Brookfield, VT. And by her daughter Linn and husband Peter Scott of Hampton, VA, and their children: Alexander Scott of Richmond, VA; Ashley Scott and his wife Alice of Richmond, VA; and Amanda Scott of San Francisco, CA. Additionally are two nephews, David Linke and wife Lynn of Lakewood, CO, and Douglas Pierson and wife Margaret of Ormand Beach, FL. Final plans for a private interment at her family plot in Hartford, CT, are in progress. A celebration of life will take place next summer around the time of her birthday at her family cottage in Brookfield, VT.
