Nellie was born in Effingham, Illinois and moved to Tama County, Iowa when she was small. She went to school inTama. Her niece, Marian said she was a "tiny" woman. William J. Knowles has in his possession a letter and envelope with the following: Envelope addressed Mr. W. E. Knowles, Geneseo, Ill. Return: 2819 N Marmora, Chicago, Ill. Postmark March 7, 5:30 p.m., 1938, 31 Chicago Ill. A three cent stamp. The letter in it reads as follows:

Chicago, Ill. March 7 - 38

Dear Father

I know you will be supprised (surprised) to get this letter, but I have been trying to locate you for some time, George's boy Audley told mother you had moved so I wrote to the postmaster in Gilman and he told me where you had gone.

I am living in Chicago, have been here two years. Now Father I won't write any more as I am not sure you will get it but if you do please write to me.

Nellie lived at 102 South 3rd St in Fort Dodge for much of her life.

In the late 40's she lived at 718 South 19th, on Al's Register and Tribune paper route.
