She was born in Ilion, N.Y., Oct. 4, 1938, to Rev. Irving H. Decker and the late Louise (Wolf) Decker.
She lived in the Amherst area since 1985 and formerly lived in Cambridge, N.Y.,Ridgefield, Conn., and Fayetteville, N.Y.
She earned her bachelor's degrees in Spanish from Hope College in Holland, Mich.,and continued postgraduate studies at State University of New York in Albany.
She was a school teacher for many years, having taught at Cambridge Central School in Cambridge, N.Y., and the Milford Middle School, Milford, until her retirement in 1995.
She enjoyed gardening, golfing, boating, antiquing and history.
Family members include her husband, Alan D. Beede of Amherst; a daughter, Susan Carpenter of Alexandria, Va.; a son, John Beede of Dover; a sister, Sharon Kammeraad of Naples, Fla.; and a brother, Kurt Decker of Slidell, La.
IN HER LIFE: She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and a devoted mother and grandmother.
For the last 14 years, she and her husband had been the owners/operators of Tricorn Antiques and Estate Sales, Inc. She was an active member of the Souhegan Christian Church, Amherst, and was also very active in Questers, the Amherst Garden Club, AAUW, and the Amherst Antiques on the Green Committee.
Family members also include a son-in-law, J. Scott Carpenter of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Beede of Dover; and four grandchildren, Alexander and Ethan Carpenter, Eli and Nathaniel Beede.
SERVICES:A memorial service is May 2 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, 327 N.River Road, Milford.
A reception will immediately follow at the Souhegan Christian Church, 5 Route 101A, Unit 2, Amherst.
