EAST BOOTHBAY - Ivan Austin Philbrook, 91, of the Ocean Point Road in East Boothbay passed away at his home on May 12, 2004.

Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., on Monday, May 17, at Simmons, Harrington & Hall, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay. A funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, at Simmons, Harrington & Hall followed by interment in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall, Boothbay.

Ivan Austin Philbrook, 91, of East Boothbay passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 12.

Born on December 30, 1912 on Matincus Island, he was the son of Leroy M. and Flora E. Ames Philbrook. He grew up on Matincus Island and was a lobsterman for many years.

During World War II he worked at B.I.W as a welder. After WW II, he returned to lobstering, later moving to Florida for eight years. He then worked in Newport News, Virginia for two years as a welder. He returned to Maine and worked at Fuller Shipyard, Goudy and Stevens and Paul Luke Boatyard, all in East Boothbay. He started his own flagpole business in 1980 and ran it until 2003.

His wife, Naida, died in 1979. He later married Jean Lunney Salter.

Mr. Philbrook was a member of the Bayview Lodge #196, Solar Lodge #14 in Bath, and Past Patron of Crescent Chapter #54 O.E.S. He was very active with the Chapter and the Masons.

His chief interests were his family, going to Myrtle Beach and flagpoles.

Survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean Lunney Salter Philbrook of East Boothbay; two sons, Leroy Philbrook and his wife, Louise W. of Thomaston, and David Ivan and his wife, Sandy, of Naples; one daughter, Sandra L. Dickinson of Charlestown, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grand-children; one brother, Vernon L. Philbrook, of Yarmouth; special cousin, Vonnie Ames, of Camden; nephew, nieces and cousins.

Visiting hours were held with a Masonic service Monday, May 17, and a funeral service was held Tuesday, May 18 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Ivan Austin PHILBROOK and Naida H. AINSWORTH were married on 3 November 1933.

Naida H. AINSWORTH was born on 27 July 1910 in Massachusetts.

She died on 17 December 1979 at the age of 69 in Boothbay, Lincoln, Maine.
