Sixth Generation773. Deacon Benjamin PHILBRICK495 was born on 21 February 1767 in Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He died on 25 January 1862 at the age of 94 in Sanbornton, Belknap, New Hampshire. He was a deacon of the Congregational Church from 1811 until 3 April 1837. He had sterling qualities and remarkable efficiency and fidelity as a church member and officer. He was a man of great physical force, and a devoted Christian, many times "spending the night in prayer." Born and brought up near the sea-coast, and living beside the Bay, he still retained his fondness for a boat and fishing line, and very narrowly escaped drowning at the age of 85, as his boat upset and he swam quite a distance to reach the shore. He fell "oftimes into the fire and oft into the water," might be said of him, in his old age. Twice, at least, he met with accidents from fire; once on a Sunday, when "he took the place of the forstick, and spoiled his Testament!"
