He served in the military during World War I between 1917 and 1919.¹⁵⁰⁷ He was inducted into the US Army at Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine on September 18, 1917 and was with the 303rd Field Artillary. He served in France in the Toul Sector from July 16, 1918 to April 26, 1919. He was an Artilleryman with the 76th Division when he arrived at Boston Harbor from France aboard the ship Santa Rosa. He was discharged as a Corporal in Battery B at Fort Devon, Massachusetts on May 1, 1919.
Carroll received a Certificate of Recognition from the State of Maine for his Service in WWI on 4 July 1920.¹⁵⁰⁷
