Shirley Seavey “Phil” Philbrick Jr., 88, of Bedford, died Friday, May 6, 2005.

He was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Boston, Mass., a son of the late Shirley Seavey Philbrick and Helen Morgan Fitch Philbrick.

Phil graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H., and Harvard College, Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Mass., with an MBA. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific with the rank of lieutenant commander and was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Bedford. He retired as manager of employee benefits from Crown-Zellerbach Co. in San Francisco after 35 years of service. After his retirement in 1979, he moved to Lynchburg where he was active in St. Johns Episcopal Church and several volunteer organizations, and worked in Bedford for Reynolds Supply and Bedford Hardware.

Phil is survived by his wife, Virginia Elizabeth Orkney Philbrick; five sons, David Alan Philbrick and his wife, Cathey of Keizer, Ore., Loren King Philbrick and his wife, Janice of Salem, Ore., Donald Fitch Philbrick and his wife, Linda of Rustburg, Robert Emmons Philbrick of Charleston, W.Va., Thomas Seavey Philbrick and his wife Maria of Martinsburg, W.Va.; four daughters, Sharon Carol Gross and husband, William of Albuquerque, N.M., Wendy Joan Smith and husband, Martin of Denver, Colo., Nancy Helen Cantor and husband, Dale of Santa Rosa, Calif., Mary Elizabeth Wood and husband, Eric of Mishawaka, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Jenkins, of New Orleans, La.

A private service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. at St Johns Episcopal Church Columbarium with the Rev. G. Thomas Mustard officiating.

Shirley Seavey "Phil" PHILBRICK Jr. and Emily King BROWNING were married on 9 August 1941. They were divorced. Emily King BROWNING was born on 21 May 1918 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut. She died after 1952 at the age of 34.
