SIDNEY -- Clarence J. "Jimmy" Philbrick, age 78, of the Middle Road died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital at Togus following a long illness.
He was born in Augusta on Oct. 3, 1925, a son of the late Charles M. and Blanche (Ferguson) Philbrick. Mr. Philbrick was a graduate of Cony High School and was an Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Until his retirement, he had been the owner/operator of Philbrick Well Drilling for many years. He previously had worked at the VA Hospital at Togus.
Mr. Philbrick was a life member of the Masonic Lodge 53 in Sidney and was a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Joan (Berube) Philbrick, and a great-grandson, Zachary Cummings.
Mr. Philbrick is survived by his four sons, Robert Philbrick, John Philbrick and his wife, Becky, and James Philbrick and Delwin Philbrick and his wife, Sandy, all of Sidney; his three daughters, Brenda Ayers and her husband, Edwin, Gail George and her husband, John, and Nancy Cole and her husband, Dale, all of Sidney; a brother, Loren Philbrick of Augusta; two sisters, Alice Knapp and Edith Dore, both of Sidney; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special caregiver and friend, Wanda Nickerson, who helped make the last five years of his life very special.
There will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
