16993. Richard Harvey HANSEN519 was born on 13 December 1923 in Center Township, Iowa. He died on 8 December 1995 at the age of 71 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. He was buried on 13 December 1995 at Fort McPherson National, Maxwell Cemetary in Maxwell, Lincoln, Nebraska. Richard was inducted into the airforce on May 25, 1943. Attended Engineer Mechanics Servic e School in TX, CA, and NY. Dick was stationed in Hawaii as an airplane engine mechanic insp ecting and repairing military aircraft. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, WII Vic tory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Service Medal before receiving his Honorabl e Discharge on Feb 25, 1946 from Ft Logan, CO.

After his discharge Dick worked on several Sandhill ranches including Elmer Barnes' near Cody ; George McGinley's in Keystone; and Bill Trego's of Tyron and North Platte. In the early 50 's he worked in the mines at Leadville, CO but a bad case of arthritis forced him to leave . He came to North Platte and worked as a deputy to Sheriff George Howard. From 1952-54 an d again in 1956 he served as a brand inspector at Atkinson and moved to North Platte in 196 1 where he became chief brand inspector. Dick retired from the Brand Committee on Jan 4, 198 6 but continued to work at the sale barn checking in cattle on sale days until 1994 when as D ick put it, "his hind-leg hurt too bad to walk the alleys."

He loved the sport of rodeo, competing as a bronc rider for many years, then supported the Su therland and Buffalo Bill rodeos by opening chute gates for the rough stock events. In 199 2 the Sutherland Rodeo Committee presented him with a Stetson hat for 25 years of service. H e attended a judging school at Tulsa in 1972 and then judged many IRA rodeos, the first 6 Ol d Timers Rodeos at Hyannis and the International Finals Rodeo in 1972. In 1966 Dick rode th e "wild ones" with Duane Hagler as mugger to win the Championship Buckle at the Lake Malone y Wild Horse Race.

Dick became a member of the NE, TX Longhorn Association when Gene Kramer gave him a cripple d longhorn cow named Pok-D-Dot. In 1988 she produced the Lincoln State Fair Reserve Champion , Lorna M who was also Grand Champion at Valentine. He was a 48 yr member of the American Le gion, a 32 yr member of BPOE, 20 yr member of FOE, Loyal Order of the Moose and VFW.
