She appeared in the census on 23 October 1850 in Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa.⁴⁹³ Age 16, born Illinois. She was living with her sister Elizabeth and her husband Benjamin Frost and their children. Name on census index/image: Rachel Filbrick.

She was not on the census on 23 June 1860 in Clayton, Clayton, Iowa with her family, possibly because Rachael had died or was living elsewhere. She obviously wasn't dead because she was on the 1870 census with her husband and children.

This is the information from the 1860 census for her husband John:

Age 40, born Vermont. He was a "(Farmer) Laborer" and his household included wife Mary, 41 [b. VT], and children David, 9, Ester, 7, Alfred, 5, and John, 2. Name on census: Jack Putnam.

It's possible/likely that Mary was not John/Jack's wife but a sister, cousin, whatever, and that Rachael was not in the household at the time. It is unknown who gave this information to the census enumerator and what facts they actually knew. It's possible that Rachael was in the hospital and Mary was living with John/Jack to help take care of the young children.

There are many other possibilities, too numerous to list here. It is suggested that whomever is interested in the truth should do some more research.

She appeared in the census on 17 August 1870 in Clayton, Clayton, Iowa.⁴⁹³ Age 36, born Illinois. She was living with husband John, 54, and their 8 children, David, 18, Esther, 17, Alfred, 15, John, 12, Rosella, 10, Perkins, 6, May, 3, and Eliza, 1. Name on census index: Rachel Rutnam.

She appeared in the census on 15 June 1880 in Bon Homme County, Dakota Territory [South Dakota].⁴⁹³ Age 46, born Illinois, father born Vermont, mother Tennessee. She was living with husband A.S. Constantine [her 2nd], 48, and 4 of her children from her previous marriage to John Putnam; David, 28, Perkins, 17, Mary, 15, and Nellie, 9. It is presumed that John Putnam is dead but it's possible that there was a divorce. Name on census index/image: Rachel Constantine.

Rachael PHILBRICK and John "Jack" PUTNAM were married on 5 December 1850 in Clayton County, Iowa.¹³⁹³

John "Jack" PUTNAM¹³⁹³ was born about 1816 in Vermont.⁷⁹⁴

He moved in Iowa about 1847.⁷⁹⁴

He appeared in the census on 14 September 1850 in Jefferson Township, Clayton, Iowa.⁴⁹³ Age 36, born Vermont. He was a miner and was living in the household of Albert Baker, 31, [also a miner] and his family. Name on census index: John Patnam.

Jack appeared in the census on 23 June 1860 in Clayton, Clayton, Iowa.⁴⁹³ Age 40, born Vermont. He was a "(Farmer) Laborer" and his household included Mary, 41, [relationship, if any, unknown] and children David, 9, Ester, 7, Alfred, 5, and John, 2. Name on census: Jack Putnam.

He appeared in the census on 17 August 1870 in Clayton, Clayton, Iowa.⁴⁹³ Age 54, born Vermont. He was a farmer and his household included his wife "Rachel", and their 8 children. Name on census index: John Putrium.

He died in 1874 at the age of 58.⁷⁹⁴

Rachael PHILBRICK-17297 and John "Jack" PUTNAM-17298 had the following children:
