Eighth Generation3425. Reuel Huntoon BEAN was born on 13 April 1824 in New Hampshire.1464 He appeared in the census on 14 July 1860 in Township 18, Range 7, Menard, Illinois. Age 36, born New Hampshire. He was a painter and his household included his wife Mary A., 35, and children Charles C., 9; Elen, 5; and Moses, 6 months. His 65 year old mother was also living with them. Name on census: Ruel H. Bean. He died on 12 February 1887 at the age of 62 in Petersburg, Menard, Illinois.845 Reuel Huntoon BEAN and Mary A. PLUMMER were married on 23 December 1847.845 He was a painter most of his life, but also a farmer in later years. They moved to Menard County, IL in 1856. His widowed mother, Eliza Betsey Philbrick Bean, and his younger brother, Luther Lorel, went with him. Reuel purchased several acres of land, both in Petersburg, IL, and in a smaller town just southwest of Petersburg, called Tallula. His farming was done in Tallula, which was incorporated as a village in 1871/72, with R. H. Bean being elected as President of the first Board of Trustees [The History of Menard & Mason Counties, Illinois, published 1879, pages 326-327]. Mary A. PLUMMER was born about 1825 in Maine.493 She appeared in the census on 14 July 1860 in Township 18, Range 7, Menard, Illinois. Age 35, born Maine.
