10032. Herbert Arthur PHILBRICK2197,2874 was born on 11 May 1915 in Somerville, Middlesex, Massachusetts.906

Herb was born in the Boston area and spent the early years of his life in Somerville, MA. Many of his relatives were from Rye Beach, NH, and he spent summers of his young life there. He considered himself a Rye Beach native. He worked in Boston as a teen, in the theater district. He gained much notoriety during the 1950s and 1960s when he led the lifestyle of a spy for the FBI and infiltrated the Communist Party of the US, and was the key witness during the prosecution of 9 of the country's top communist leaders. He wrote a bestseller book about his life and there was a TV show about his life in the 50s called "I Led Three Lives", one of the most popular shows on television. He was a decorated reporter for the Hampton Union for many years and retired to spend more time on Constructive Action, a communist Watchdog Group that he ran. He was formerly a syndicated columnist for the New York Herald Tribune, and served a short time as a radio host.

He died on 16 August 1993 at the age of 78 in North Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire.906 Herb passed at 5PM in his home in North Hampton after a short bout with cancer. Funeral Services were conducted at Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth, NH by Paster John Pevett of Screven Memorial Baptist Church of Portsmouth, and Dr. B. Ross Morrisson of Weaton, MD spoke during the services. St. James Lodge of Hampton held a memorial Masonic service in Portsmouth for him. He was buried on 19 August 1993 at Rye Central Cemetery in Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire.2875

Herbert Arthur PHILBRICK and Shirley Joy BRUNDIGE were married in 1968 at the Union Chapel in North Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire.2879

Shirley Joy BRUNDIGE2879, daughter of Woodrow Wilson BRUNDIGE and Allie B. BURPO, was born on 19 April 1942 in Martin, Weakley, Tennessee.2879 She died very unexpectedly of cardiac arrest in her home on 21 June 1997 at the age of 55 in Waterford, Loudoun, Virginia.2879 She was buried on 28 June 1997 at Rye Central Cemetery in Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire.2879 She was buried in the Philbrick family plot next to her husband Herb. Shirley was a legal secretary in Hampton after arriving in New Hampshire, and then after completing a degree in Political Science at the University of NH, she started a successful Real Estate business. After losing her beloved husband Herb (8/16/1993), she moved with her daughter Dawn and her family to northern Virginia to build a new home in 1994. She continued working in Real Estate, Interior Decorating, writing, and running a non-profit educational organization.
